Members ianick
If I were to buy an Ampeg SVP-CL and a power amp, would it sound similar ot a SVT-3pro? I really like the way my friends SVT-3PRO sounds, but would like to ability to upgrade later to a more powerful amp.
Members mike fitzwell
I have a SVP-CL and have played through Roswellian's -3Pro. Yes they do sound similar. And trust me you won't miss the graphic eq at all. The tone shaping on the -CL is great with both the 5-way mid and low controls. Just beware that the SVP-CL will not do overdrive/distortion and it does not have an effects loop in case those features are important to you. Members BoundandBlocked
I believe the SVP-PRO is in the 3-Pro. SVP-CL in the Classic.

The SVP-Pro is the pre from the SVT-2Pro, which is very similar to the 3-Pro. The -CL is designed to mimic the original SVT preamp moreso than the current Classic. (I learned that over on TB from the dude that works for Ampeg that posts there.)

CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted August 25, 2005 CMS Author Share Posted August 25, 2005 Why not get a -3PRO, and later if you actually think you need more power, run a power amp off the preamp output? If you really need more volume, may as well run to the PA instead...since you'll also need another speaker to actually utilize the extra watts. Members L-1329
Thanks a lot guys... *looks at empty space in rack where preamp used to be* I really didn't need a case of Ampeg gas right now! By the way does the SVP-CL have a mute function on a footswitch, or a seperate tuner out?

Yes on tuner out. Yes on footswitchable mute. In fact, that's all the optional footswitch does.
