Members Emprov Posted August 26, 2005 Members Posted August 26, 2005 *snif* My Dr. Bass cabs just walked out the door. You know, I'm not really prone to getting too attached to gear but these were different. The most defined and punchiest cabs I've ever owned. G'bye trusty cabs, here's a final pic. Now, it's time to rock with the Schroeder 1210!

You know, I never did do a real detailed A/B. Everyone who tried the Dr. Bass's absolutely loved them though and the comment "Man, that steps all over my Aguilars!" was heard twice. The Schroeder has much more bass, not as loud as the Dr. Bass config but it should be plenty loud enough at 4ohm, (thinking about building a 210 based on Jorg's design to compliment it). The 1210 sounds almost synthetic compared to the Dr. Bass's and playing the 1210 makes me realize just how detailed and unforgiving the Dr. Bass's are -- you make even the slightest mistake and everyone hears it. The Dr. Bass's also have a lot more punch. The main reasons why I'm keeping the 1210 are because it's only one cab (bigger than either of the Dr. Bass's but still pretty small, slightly larger than a GS112) that's pretty darn loud and the huge bottom end. Ideally I'll have a detailed cab with huge bottom end but I haven't found the blend of those that I'm looking for. Can you say Accugroove? I will miss the Dr. Bass's though.

I wish you luck with the Schroeder. They are supposed to be wonderful cabs!

The Schroeders definitely have their own sound, kind of like a sythetic sounding GS112 on steriods, that's the only way I can describe it. And it ain't the perfect cab, but we're getting close.

Members Red Cell Posted August 27, 2005 Members Posted August 27, 2005 I have to be one of the guys that say I LOVE MY Dr Bass cabs. I have one of the 2x12" cabs that hits about 45 hz and it really hammers out the bass. Too bad I don't play bass anymore.

Hold out for something that'll give you some thundering bass, that's why I ultimately sold my Dr. Bass's. And, while I probably won't be the biggest proponent of Schroeder, Jorg has produced the best compact cab that I've seen short of Accugroove Tri110's and 112's IMHO. I picked mine up for $560 shipped, you can probably land one for a bit less than that. Be patient and a better deal will present itself before too long.

And ya, I dug the cabs and Marc's a heck of a nice guy.
Members Red Cell Posted August 27, 2005 Members Posted August 27, 2005 Hehe.. Marc is a stand-up guy. I was really happy with the service I got from him. He even got the powder coat on the grille (custom gold) correct to match the front of the amp. Yeah I am selling mine and also the head and bass...

Now, it's time to rock with the Schroeder 1210! Why don't you just keep both? The change is what sparks imagination. I learned a long time ago not to put my $$$ towards gear that could be replaced. I lost thousands back in my late teens that way. Well, I WAS a keyboard playa, but that's beside the point. I plan on getting an all tube head for my rig someday, but I'll never part with my 350. I didn't buy it to replace it. I'd even like to add to my cab collection. Hey, these are all just colors in a crayon box. It's like listening to these fenfer guys that play J's and talk about missing their P's. Why sell the P in the 1st place?

I'm on a constant quest to discover the limits of her grace, I've found it a few times and it hurts.
