Hypothetical rig question

I say hypothetical, 'cause I can't rub two nickles together.

How would one switch between preamps if one was to use say 3 or 4 different preamps? One power amp that each pre would have to be wired into, as well as 4 D.I. outs to one line on the board.

I was thinking an elaborate "Loooper", but there have to be people out there doing this sort of thing in other ways.

Oh I realize a modeler like that would be a whole lot more practical, but for {censored}s and giggles, if I had mucho $ lying around, why not have a Demeter, Ampeg, etc...etc... in my rig instead of something mimicking those amps.

Multiple A/B boxes would be the simple man's way of doing it.

Bass-->Split-->--Split--> Pre-amp A--

````````````````---> Pre-amp B-----`_
`````````--->---------> Pre-amp C---V``____Power amp-->Cab

````````````````---> Pre-amp D-----/
How you get all those in's into a power amp, I have no idea. Just run them all into different cabinets and power them all seperately for a SUPER rig .
The total sum will be more than the combined parts. :D
and them how to get the DI's out to the board. That first part would be easily accomplished with the splitter idea, I just don't know how it would go from there.
Well, since it is hypothetical, her is what you would use:'
You beat me to the punch. I think a MIDI channel selection system would be the best way to go about it. With that, you could not only switch between preamps, but put effects in/out of the signal, switch instruments, and select channels on a preamp/amp (if it has that capability) all at the touch of a button. Granted, you'd have to have all the loops in the system to do that, but all of that is easily accomplished with the GCX.
I use a GCX system for controlling my effects when I use them. It makes switching things on and off so much easier when it all happens at the same time.
The rack guys have been doing this for a long time.
Digital Music Corp.'s GCX system does close to the same thing, but is less expensive, and has a few less features. I think, but I could be wrong on this, but with the Switchblade you can program in things such as wet/dry amount, and the order in which effects are chained (so you can have a distortion before a delay one second, hit a button, then have the delay before the distortion.)
From what I remember it's a powerful, useful, and just pretty damn cool piece of gear. If only it weren't so expensive we might see and hear about it more.
