Members Tag
I've been eyeing these over, they look pretty sweet, and all the reviews are great. I'm looking for something that can handle high volumes from my EVO 500 well, and really be heard in a loud band situation. What do you guys think? Members T. Alan Smith
SWR's Professional Series cabs, to my ears, give a very detailed sound that expose all the detail of your touch -good or bad. I've found it addicting. The 8x8 is like getting hit with a sledge. Very tight. I'd like to have one too someday.
Members NeonVomit
I've heard 8x8's but never played through them. If you're gonna be playing in a loud band in a small venue, the 8x8 is about as good as you can get for that situation. Apparently. I'd like to try one though.. I think the 8''s would really bring out the sound of my 6-string.
Members HoldingThsMoment
i owned an 8x8... great cabs! lots of punch, and more low end than one would think. i believe mel mec owns it now... unless he got rid of it.
Members fastplant
You're better off getting better PA speakers and running a DI into them. There's no need for giant cabs like that anymore. With a ton of power going into it it only goes in one direction. Going through the PA you can have mulitple speakers that hit everyone. Members Deville
I have an Ampeg SVT48HE (4x8). It sounds amazing until you start rockin' the B string. Then... Fart fart fart! I'm sure the Henry is a bit better with 8 speakers, but I'm beginning to gravitate toward Fastplant's point. I fear the towering bass rig is losing its relevance. I hooked up my bass cabs as subs for the PA and ran bass through my preamp into an available channel, and the sound was awesome. It sounded like I was everywhere! It was punchy, deep, and it sat just right in the mix... something that's really hard to gauge when it's blasting out of an amp behind you. Members Dark Slide
I have been trying to convince the bassist in my band to get one forever! Hell, if/when I decide I need a new bass setup, that'll be what I get. Saw one on Ebay go for

Members Johnny BoomBoom
To go with my ABM 500 EVO, I use a Mini48 and Mini15! Works quite well! Have thought about trying 2 Mini48 cabs to see how that would work - at least more portable than an 8x8!!
Members spinedriver
I was just talking to a friend and he told me the 8x8 moves SERIOUS air.
Members Subsonicbass
Henry has been my #1 cab since 1995. Super fast transient response. Pumps lot's o' air through those big ports. What's John McVie got back there?
Members timmerz
I'd seriously reccomend the SWR top 'o the line stuff, which the Henry is part of, but would sort of caution against using huge power through it....I haven't looked at the RMS capability of that cab in a long time, but I seem to recall that SWR used to reccomend a 350 rms head to be run through it.....I'm fearing that if you play a 5'er and throb the low B at 500 rms, you might not like those 8's quite so much..... I would try one out with your head before buying, if you can.
Members Subsonicbass
500 watts is a perfect match for the cab.
Members timmerz
Very nice-looking rig!I'm a big fan of SWR also.....Do you play a 5'er or 6?If so, how's the B sound? Do you have to roll off the bottom end at all when your volume level is high?
Members funkrockfreedomfighter
One of my fondest memories of playing bass was going to a guitar center and playing a warwick thumb 5er through an sm-500 hooked into a henry the 8x8 and a sob15". I gave it the double thump on the A string and damn near fell of my seat. To this day I've yearned for one but have never gotten around to it. Members Apendecto
Very awesome lows and very detailed notes. The lows don't fart out. I don't have a 5er but I do have a bass dropped a step and sometimes I go drop C on top of it. Never had a problem. The head I use on top of it is 600 watts. Having extra headroom is nice but just don't crank up the volume, since it can only handle 400 watts rms. It worked well for me since our pa was pretty {censored}ty and I needed to have enough air for a 100 watt guitar amp and a heavy handed drummer. But do you need it? Look at your situation. Great cab, but I'm afraid everyone is right when they say you can DI through your gigs PA. But that didn't stop me from getting the 8x8, 4x10 and 1x18 by SWR. Now to hook them all up..... Yo. Members zachoff
I don't like it near as much as the Goliath II & III (4x10s)
Members fastplant
As far as cabs go, assuming you're set on a cab not pa, I seem to get a better sound from a 2x10 SWR cab on top of a 1x15 Trace Elliot cab. And it's plenty loud.
Members Tag
Wow! Just got a chance to check HC, and look at all these replies...you guys rock. Anyhow, I'm quite familiar with the benefits of using a good house PA, however, many times that luxury is not available. If there IS a PA, sometimes it's only powerful enough for vox, sometimes there's none and we bring our own, and sometimes there are great PA's and everything get's miced, like a dream come true! The point being, we play many types of places so I like to be ready either way. Mostly small to medium size joints though, so the Henry might be perfect. Also, I read a lot about it handling the low B - I only play a 4 stringer, so no worries there. (But damn, if it CAN handle a B with ease, then I've got nothing to worry about with it handling MY bass! ) Originally posted by Apendecto It worked well for me since our pa was pretty {censored}ty and I needed to have enough air for a 100 watt guitar amp and a heavy handed drummer. But do you need it? Look at your situation. Yo. See that is pretty much my current situation. You guys are talking about the 8x8 being too loud, but before this I was considering a Goliath III matched with a Big Ben - 4x10 + 1x18! Oh yeah, Subsonicbass - Nice RIg! Members Tag
Sounds good so far... I know this is sort of random, but could anyone compare what the Henry might sound like, as opposed to a Goliath III/Big Ben setup. That was the other option I was considering, so without having been able to hear them (except the Goliath, which I heard long ago and really liked), how would you guys say those two options stack up? Thanks!
