Members anothertxn Posted September 2, 2005 Members Posted September 2, 2005 I've bothered you guys before about my need for a cab that can handle my evilness. Hopefully this will be the solution: Matched with a Sunn 300T and a Ampeg 4x10 HLF, I plan on breaking stages.
Members Tlaloc Posted September 2, 2005 Members Posted September 2, 2005 maybe you should stop being evil to your cabs...?

Members der oxenrig Posted September 2, 2005 Members Posted September 2, 2005 Is that a Sunn Coliseum 12+18? I hate you.

Members bnyswonger Posted September 2, 2005 Members Posted September 2, 2005 Put JBLs in it. Or at least the 18"...

Members timmerz Posted September 2, 2005 Members Posted September 2, 2005 You know what? The more I look at that thing, the more I'd like to rock it.....I've left this thread 3 times and come back to look at it yet again....I'm wondering what they were thinking when they designed the angles of the speakers.....gotta be a reason they canted them like that....Do you think the cab had a cover on the front of it from the factory? Is there a factory nameplate with the cabinet impedance marked, and the reccomended wattage that it be run at?I think you got a screaming deal for $100, steers b-c..... Can you show us side and rear views of it so we can guage the speaker bin sizes? I'm wondering what kind of tone you can expect from that beast....
Members NeonVomit Posted September 2, 2005 Members Posted September 2, 2005  now THAT is a badass cabinet!! But ever thought of adding a dedicated subwoofer to your rig for uber-low end?
Members bnyswonger Posted September 2, 2005 Members Posted September 2, 2005 Originally posted by steers b-c Which would you recommend? First choice would be the old K or E151...the newer 2241H or 2242 H would work well too. Those drivers are built like tanks.
Members burdizzos Posted September 2, 2005 Members Posted September 2, 2005 Since you're going to have to replace the drivers anyway, why is this a good deal? You're going to end up putting a speaker in that cab that isn't ideal for that cab and low end response may or may not be good. I guess if it looks cool, it'll work great.
Members fureybass Posted September 2, 2005 Members Posted September 2, 2005 This one is new to me. I've seen Sunn come up with some wild cabs, and this one doesn't disappoint. This should work well for you Steers. Call it a feeling. You may want to think about using a crossover, especially on the bottom. essentially use it as a sub. I still can't believe you can manage to destroy HLF drivers.

It's a risk. It had new speakers in it, but apparently the replacements aren't all that great. I pulled the trigger sooner than I should have, but I don't regret it. I'll pick it up in the next day or so and give it a run. If it doesn't work out, I'll go to the Sunn gurus and find what would work best for replacements. If that doesn't work, I'll sell the thing and the speakers at a loss, but in the end have probably eaten a total of 50 bucks. On the flipside, if I can get it working the way I desire, it has serious potential. The 18 can take care of super noise and bass while the 12 adds tightness and pop. At $100, it's worth the risk.

Trust me, I wish I didn't kill HLF drivers. And it DID take awhile. But such is life.

I have no idea about the frill or anything else...I'd never even seen anything like it before I stumbled across it on craigslist.

You don't need originals. Get some modern drivers in it and it'll be one hell of a lot better than it was originally. Edit: (of course, you really do want someone with the skills to figure out which ones really fit it, but still, looks like a cool score to me, I'd've hit it myself)
Members BEAD Posted September 2, 2005 Members Posted September 2, 2005 My sunn 215bh has newish drivers in it and still has tons of mojo, fwiw.
Members fintucfin Posted September 4, 2005 Members Posted September 4, 2005 Shucks, I thought you were posting about a Checker Taxicab.

Members anothertxn Posted September 11, 2005 Author Members Posted September 11, 2005 I get to test the cab out tomorrow. If the drivers are really killing it, I'll pull the trigger. This new rig is going to be fun.
Members MILO Posted September 11, 2005 Members Posted September 11, 2005 I always found 2 8x10's usually does the trick:D Ever considered this?
