Not to mention that for 3 years in school, I worked for the Residence Life part of campus housing. I interacted wth dozens of resident assistants, and hundreds of students. I worked the help desk at one of the dormitories and then supervised it for 2 years. I dealt with hundreds of students, from the USA, Europe, Asia, and Africa. It's not a stereotype it's a fact. It's a culture thing plain and simple. I'm friends with a lot of Eurpoeans and hang out with them on a fairly regular basis. Even if one person is different than your so called "fact," your entire premise is wrong.In reality, there are MANY more people on both sides of the pond that just a few who don't fit this model. Not all blacks here act the same, nor have the same culture...just as all blacks in Europe do not act the same, nor have the same culture. Because of the differences, you cannot make a claim that encompasses the entire group of people, it simply won't be true. Hence the problem with stereotypes. It is true that I live in Germany, but I visited the United States and lived there in an "American" surrounding. Besides that, most of my relatives live in the U.S. or Australia. As I live in Hamburg, I can tell that we have a bit more than 4 black people. It is true that there are more turkish than black people, but I' m not afraid of them either.I agree that there is a difference between black people in the U.S. and (for example) Europe: the latter never had problems being enslaved by others just because of their skin colour. They are not much different than any other racial group in the US who are poor, but I'm surprised to see only blacks in the footage of looting and violence. Either only blacks remained in NO, or only blacks are looting, or only footage showing blacks looting is getting on the air. Each of these possibilities has its own component of trouble. New Orleans is about 70% Black. Thats probably why all footage shows blacks. I'm sure there are whites mixed in there, just not nearly as many. It's my understanding that the Turkish blacks are treated pretty harshly and are seen as the "N word" in that part of the world. I've heard several stories about them. Oh please. At one time or another every race has been enslaved by another. I seem to remeber reading about a time when a certain group in Europe was discriminated against just a tad more harshly than the American black. In fact they even made them wear yellow stars in order to tell them apart from everyone else. Like Fran said though the ones who are crying about slavery now were never slaves. Chalk it up to another "urban legend." EDIT: I am referring to the original post - the minister/fireman was killed by evacuees robbing his house. It didn't happen.
