Members Thunderbroom
The semester just started where I work. I just got off the phone (2 minutes ago) from a current student. He's a young guy...around 21 or 22...and is taking three classes with me this semester. He called me at home to tell me that he's trying to make arrangements to head down to NOLA to help and may have to drop out of my classes. He said that my talking about it in class helped spark his desire. He works as a volunteer fireman and is trying to see if they can help get him down there. I thanked him and told him that I hope I don't see him in class next week. How cool!

Members takeout
Good for him. I hope he gets the opportunity to do some good down there, without seeing too many knuckleheads.

Members 78pbass
Jeff, can you give him a grade so his time accrued in class isn't wasted? Since the cause is so admirable and dear to you, it seems natural to step up for him.

The classes he is taking with me are lab-based mechanical maintenance classes. In order to complete the courses successfully, he must exhibit proficiency in the course content which I must evaluate. If he does go to NOLA, he'll just drop the courses and take them next semester. He and I already talked about this, and he understands.

Last I checked, knucklehead was still up in the ol' Pacific NW? TB, that is cool, you done good, and kudos to the kid. Just shows how social responsibility and values don't have to be on the curriculum to be taught...
Members bholder
Hey, would there be any way to get him credit for some sort of "independent study" for going down there?

Is it early enough in the semester for him to get refunds for dropping classes?
