Members Reverend179
Well, as much as I enjoy my current rig, I've been thinking that it's time to move on for a bit now, and the hankerin' to try out this amp that everyone seems to love so much has bitten me. I have a few questions though- I like a really punchy tone, responsive in the high mids. Reminiscent of Hunter from AFI or (gulp) Mark Hoppus' tone. Can it do it- that kinda punky tone? How would you rate it's overall ease of use? Can you see the knobs clearly under stage lights? The faceplate on my Firebass is {censored}ing BLACK and I can't see {censored} if the lights are down. Pissed me off. Anyhoo, that's just about it. Thanks.
Members bassplayinguy
i just tried one out for the first time on friday and i was thoroughly impressed, very nice amp. THe backplate is grey and white so i dont see you really having trouble seeing it in dim situations i got to play the GBE 600 at a moderately high level which was really nice, (i was at club bass in TO and i was the only one in the store so the guy cranked it up on me ) if i had to buy another amp, that would probably be the one id go to, very nice head, and versatile
Members 78pbass
yes, it will do that very-slightly-gritty punchy tone very well. The only tone I cant get it to do is the SVT-wrapped-out tone. The 1200, OTOH will dot he aforementioned tone by having eq's on each channel to blend the dirty with the clean in a very complimentary way. The 600 does that, but there's a tone-shaping compromise to consider. all in all, the 600 is one of the best amps Ive ever played, and I own mesa and eden, and have had SWR, Fartke, SVTs, and others. Fast as hell to react and PUNCHY like NO OTHER AMP. the GK sounds like a camry compared to this 350z.
Members Thunderbroom
The GBE-600 is a pretty versatile amp...easy (IMO) to get good tones out of. I use it with my country band to get some very deep, smooth bottom end to fill out the sound and dial in a more punchy sound with my rock band. Members 1tallbassguy
I've learnes with mine, that the sound has much to do with what cabs are being used. That being said, it does give a very punchy, and even raspy type of sound. Members Reverend179
Thanks, guys. I've been thinking about matching up a GBE-600 with a Henry the 8x8. Punch-tastic.
