Mark Sandman is the best two-string bassist I can come up with. (btw, where can I buy a two string bass? I looked all over.)

Flaming away.

Agreed. I love Mark Sandman. His baritone vocals are great too (I've been working on "Gone for Good" from Yes lately)

BTW, I think there was another 2 string bassist; I remember seeing a video with a guy playing it - really thin neck.

As I recall, Sandman played an old Premier bass. Possibly short scale. He just used the center 2 strings and left the others empty. Not sure what the tunings was.

I think the guy in that video was in D:A:D. They were big on MTV back in the day, so I hear.

Mark Sandman is also one of my favorite vocalists.

There are dozens of them.

Standard tuning was, I believe, D-A for Mark.

But...

"Buena" is C-G, "Cure for Pain" has both 5ths and octaves so I'm thinking its D-A-D, and a few other tunings.

Man, I love Morphine though!

Not just 2-string bass, 2-string SLIDE bass!

Would that be D-A as in drop D (the one right below the standard E string) and A (what is normally the 3rd string)? That would seem to make sense to me, as an octave higher wouldn't be bassy enough.

Not usually.

D as in open D string, and A as in G string up one step.

C-G is down one step from there.

Morphine's sound wasn't extreme low end, it was low-mid range. That middle register sounds great for Morphine.

Mark may have gone lower on some songs, I haven't analyzed very many.

Cool, thanks. I've often thought about stringing up a bass to try and do a Morphine cover (love that groove on "Top Floor, Bottom Buzzer".

So the D-A-D you mentioned was that with another high stirng? (a whole step above the C string on a six string bass?)

That would be on "Cure For Pain" if I'm remembering the line correctly. Yeah, because I'm pretty sure the chords go D-F#-E, but the F# and the E get octaves up instead of 5ths like the D so I'm very certain its DAD, with the high D being a step higher than a 6 stringer's C.

I'd suggest listening to that one yourself first, though. I may be getting my positions mixed up and it could be A-E-A, now that I stop and think about it.

Thanks again for the info. I'll need to pick up Cure for Pain. Right now I only have Yes and The Night (I think that's the name of the last one).

I liked Morphine, the band.

I also liked Morphine, the drug. Has anyone hallucinated blue budgies on Morphone? Apparently it is a common occurrence, but I didn't see them.

My housemate has a bunch of DAD albums. I can't say I like it at all. WTF is the story with the bass player. Does he wish he was a chick or what??

As for his stupid 2 string Thunderduck or whatever and his Rocket Bass, the guy looks like a complete tool.
