Members Emprov
Leukemia, don't know a whole lot about it but I believe that it's basically cancer of the blood cells, very bad suff. I've read though that chemo can be very effective and that the earlier it's caught the better. I had a very short stint with Melanoma, suffice to say that cancer sucks and I can relate in a way with your friend. Google it and I'm sure that you'll find lots of info and answers to your questions. Sucks man, sorry to hear it.

Members sunburstbasser
It can be treated if caught early. I think it affects the bone marrow where white blood cells are made. The white blood cell count will start to deteriorate as the marrow degenerates. If caught in time it can be stopped, but sometimes a marrow transplant is needed. I just found out yesterday that one of my long-time friends had a patch of pre-cancerous cells on her cheek from a sunburn last summer. They caught it in time though. Members NeonVomit
{censored} man that's terrible Does she have a family history of leukemia? My cousin died of it when she was 6 Its a disease that can strike anyone, from young to old. But fortunately it seems that in your friend's case they'll catch it early, my cousin wasn't so lucky, it had progressed quite a bit by the time they noticed. Surviving cancer is all about catching it early, it seems. My prayers are with your friend, keep us posted. Try PM'ing venturawest, he's a doctor and might be able to offer some info... Members venturawest
there are four types: AML, ALL, CML and CLL. CML and CLL mostly affect adults. here's a little overview: http://www.nci.nih.gov/cancertopics/wyntk/leukemia/page5 once you have more information, PM me or post it here and i'll tell you what i know about treatment, prognosis, etc. keep in mind, this is a very different disease process than lymphoma , which are often confused (for example, hodgkin's is a type of lymphoma). edit: here's an overview from the NCI - check all the information pages. http://www.nci.nih.gov/cancertopics/wyntk/leukemia/page2

Members More Cowbell
One of my best friends was diagnosed in february of this year. I just saw her on Friday night and she's doing well, though she's been incredibly tired lately. She's lucky...it was caught early and they're taking every step possible to counter-act the disease. She's been through 3 rounds of chemo now, and is getting ready for a bone marrow transplant. She's easily the strongest person I know. And in better spirits about the whole situation than most of the poeple around her. My thoughts are with you an your friend...I know what you're going through right now.
