i own one and run it through a ampeg bxt 410. love the sound but not the weight.

if you have a passive bass the 400+ will make it sing. i usually avoid the graphic EQ but thats just me. i'm a minimalist when it comes to {censored}ing with a basses tone. if it didn't sound good in the first place i wouldn't have bought it. great natural OD sound when you push the power amp tubes. it can also double as a space heater.

I'll be playing through the basses in my sig, mostly the Warwick.

How would you compare it to the Ampeg sound? Also, how loud can that thing go? My Ampeg SVT3 PRO just isn't cutting it in the volume dept., and I want to get something that is loud enough to where I don't have to worry about not having the extra power if I need it.......;)

funny thing, i used to have the exact set up. 3pro to the bxt playing a warwick thumb. i gave up the 3pro for the same reason, just wasn't loud enough. let me assure you that i play in a 3 peice punk band and {censored} gets loud....the 400+ can still drown out the guitar and vocals at gigs if i'm not careful. the amp is 300 watts no matter what the website says. trust me, its not 500 watts.

as for tone i would have to say that an Ampeg sound like an Ampeg. there's just no way around that. if you want to keep that tone but have more power either go with a 2pro or a 4pro. mesa has more bite then punch which is what i was going for. tube amps are very versitle though, so you can get a pretty good range of sounds out of it if you tweak it enough.

if you can, try one out before you buy and see if you can get a sound you like.
