Members DanTolen
Ok so I was in a gigging band that just broke up (Me = Bassist), because our lead singer and lead guitarist had to move. We were alternative/ experimental rock, and we wrote our own {censored}. Well now that it's just me, rythem guitarist, and drummer, the rythem guitarist took charge. He kicked our drummer out, got some hardcore guitarist. and some hardcore drummer. Now, he wants ME to play in his hardcore band. I really don't want to be the subject of ridicule when I'm on stage, I just want to play music. I'm trying to get another band together with our old drummer, but we can't find anyone thats decent enough to play alternative rock. I really love playing music live for people, but hardcore isn't really music unless it's mostly instrumental. BTW.. I don't get paid yet I'm only 16 still in high school, so right now I'm not in it for money. But anyway, if I am the bass player for this harcore band we might be getting paid. Should I go for money and {censored}ty music? or great music with no hopes of getting paid in the near future?
Members 82Daion
Follow your heart. I think that alternative music would be much more fun than producing sounds similar to a table saw being run through a distortion box. Find someone else to play your {censored}, and keep developing it. See where it goes. This guitarist sounds like he's got the guitarist version of "lead-singer disease." I happen to like hardcore, but if you're not into it heart and soul it won't ever work. Go find your own star. There are always people out there, you just gotta find 'em. Members DanTolen
Thanks for the advice, I'm going to practice with the hardcore band tonight just to see what I really want to do. I'm probably gonna keep practicing with them until I find a good guitarist.
Members januaryscar
You might just surprise yourself and actually start to enjoy playing the music.
Members DanTolen
I just got back from practice, and I must say it was annoying. Earscreeching distortion like a saw with a metal master pedal. And also, the guitarists like to turn their volume up whenver possible. ... and the only lyrics i heard were, "RRAAHHH!! DIE!!! RRAAHHH! SAHHFAHHSHAAGHH!!! RAHHHGHGH!" You could barely hear the drums, because the damn guitarists kept turning up making it so we had to turn up. I just wish I could find a guitarist that could play once or twice a week, and stay on beat... Theres not a lot of guitarists in my area that are my age that can STAY on a {censored}in beat. Oh well, maybe I'll get lucky and find someone. One thing's for sure, I'm not gonna put up with that harcore {censored} again. Bands like Atreyu and Avenged Sevonfold are good and there is music involved, but local harcore sucks ass. Members Super_Donut_Man
Ya know if it is new school "hardcore" (Blood brothers, emery, stuff like that) then I would say run fast, because that really ain't hardcore, call it what you want but not hardcore. If, however, it is like bands such as Mad Ball, No Innocent Victim, Agnostic Front, etc. then go for it. Don't go for money, and play stuff that you dont like. I know from experience that following the money doesn't always bring the joy that you think (for me atleast)

Avail, Gorilla Biscuits, Ag Front, Jugghaid's Revenge, Judge... {censored} yeah! I'm not too big on the new hardcore either but there's a few bands that are OK. Are you looking to turn pro eventually or just do music for fun? If you want to turn pro, you might as well get used to the first option as soon as possible If you only want to do it for yourself and to hell with the money, always go with the second option.
