Wave file, eh?

Thats not a big deal to me right now, but during the week my school connection gets REALLY bogged down and mp3s are preferable due to their smaller size. I'm downloading this now but you should definately use the Audacity/LAME setup so you can export recordings as mp3s. Helps the peeps on dial-up and slower connections a lot, and they aren't so huge.

Doesn't really sound like a walking bass line to me. Its more of a rock bass line.

Your getting better though. I could tell there was a beat, a vague groove, and a sense of direction.

Congratulations. You can now outplay Lug.

It's too big for my poor dialup, but it's good to start experimenting with different directions. I didn't learn much about walking until a few months ago. Proper walking takes quite a bit of background in theory. I don't know where you are with it, but here's a basic run-through if it's any help:

First thing to note for a walking bassline is the root notes for each chord in the song. You're going to be playing quarter notes, so that gives you four notes to come up with for each bar before moving to the next chord.

The first note is a giveaway: the root of the chord.

The second and third notes have options: You can play any two notes on the chord, or any two notes on the scale.

The last note of that bar is the most critical note: the approach note. The approach note is an approach to the root of the next chord. It's commonly a half step, whole step or fifth away from it. For now, just choose a half step away from the next root, then rinse and repeat with the next bar!

Don't do that.

The only time you should ever have to do that while walking is when you need to turn the page.

Walking bass needs to be very even from one note to the next, and you lose too much control using just your left hand.

Did you really use only your left hand to play that? It doesn't really sound like it, but if you did, why? I can see no reason at all for doing that when you're just improvising a bass line.

Don't pay any attention to him, he's a dink who obviously can't put his ego aside long enough to make a worthwhile post, but who also insists posting confused smilies because he wants to make it well known to everyone that this is so far below his standards that he can't even grasp it. Just ignore him.

As far as your playing goes... To be perfectly honest, it's too bad to even offer enough content to comment on.

In my opinion, what you should do is just get some CDs you like to listen to, and play along with them until you are comfortable playing your bass. If you're sitting in front of your TV, put your bass in your lap and just play random notes (With both of your hands) to just get comfortable.

You need a lot of practice, and the time you spent recording and posting this clip would have been better spent learning a Greenday song to help get you up to speed.

So your homework is to pick a song you like and play along with it until you can do it flawlessly. If you can manage to do that, post a link and I will listen to it... but if you post it and it's not even close to being flawless, I'm just going to start ignoring your posts because you obviously don't have the drive to improve.

That's very helpful. Way to go. You can play walking basslines... I am sure that helps him a lot... because he OBVIOUSLY is going to know WTF 12 bar blues is, and will most certainly be able to figure out what you're doing by ear.

If you're not actually going to TRY to help, and are just planning on waving your E-Cock around to prove how much better you are than this guy, then just {censored} off and stop wasting bandwidth.
