The Precision will have that thump to it that just works for everything. The Jazz will have a more full sound, more "growl," and will be versatile. The P/J will combine the thump of the P with the mids of the Jazz bridge p/up. Then there's what kind of body wood or fretboard wood. Bodies: Alder - strong midrange.Ash - great high mids and highs, good lows. Fretboards: Rosewood - Subdued thumpMaple - Snap All are gross generalizations. With a user name like Kid A, I'm assuming you like Radiohead. Collin Greenwood has used a P almost exclusively since OK Computer, with a few other basses here and there.
