Members Thunderbroom Posted September 13, 2005 Members Posted September 13, 2005 YFC has been asked to play a couple of gigs at the bar where we debuted...once in October and then again in November. The fella that's booking us told us we could do whatever we wanted as far as the gig goes since we don't have 3 hours of music yet. Some options we have (that I can think of):1. Have an opening band.2. Play shortened sets with longer breaks and/or repeat some songs toward the end of the evening.3. Take the last 30 - 60 minutes to do a jam with musicians that we invite to the gig. I'd call it "YFC & Friends". Any other ideas?
Members The Insomniac Posted September 13, 2005 Members Posted September 13, 2005 All three are good ideas or you can learn Cocaine and Stranglehold real fast. That should fill out the night. I would try to avoid repeating songs (but I have done it to very good effect before).

Members Thunderbroom Posted September 13, 2005 Author Members Posted September 13, 2005 I know Stranglehold! We had to repeat a song when we played our debut at this place last month. We played every one of our songs. The audience wanted an encore. We had the crowd request a song we'd already played. Someone shouted out a tune, and we played it.
Members canadianriot55 Posted September 13, 2005 Members Posted September 13, 2005 i'd say go for the jam session
Members Cortfan Posted September 13, 2005 Members Posted September 13, 2005 2. Bars normally turn over customers every few hours, and the ones that stay will be too drunk to notice, or they are your friends, anyway. If they're dancing, repeat a verse, and chorus of the song you're playing, and stretch it out a little.
Members Super_Donut_Man Posted September 13, 2005 Members Posted September 13, 2005 I like the third option the best. Definately not 2 (but three hours is hard to fill I imagine)
Members mcantafi Posted September 13, 2005 Members Posted September 13, 2005 Hmm, I don't think I can help you there. We typically blast through about 20 songs in around 45 minutes. However, as Spinal Tap would suggest, you could do Jazz Exploration. Just not in front of a stadium crowd.

Members LO_RYDER Posted September 13, 2005 Members Posted September 13, 2005 3 hours? damn thats about 30 songs! lol (average song about 5 min) damn I saw Prince a year ago and he played 3 hours but he has 20 albums worth of material! lol good luck dude!
Members bassplayinguy Posted September 13, 2005 Members Posted September 13, 2005 id go with taking longer breaks, especially if they have a good house DJ or some other tunes spinning when youre not playing. that and get crackin on learning more tunes. practice with the band more often till the gig, youll be suprised how fast you will learn new songs when you actually have to.
Members btb&dr=tone Posted September 13, 2005 Members Posted September 13, 2005 Inagodadavita Iron Butterfly That will eat up some time just not all of it.
Members sludgebass69 Posted September 13, 2005 Members Posted September 13, 2005 I say option #1............
Members nicebigstrings Posted September 13, 2005 Members Posted September 13, 2005 Yeah, get cracking and learn some new songs TB. Five or six isn't too tall an order. Don't get into repeating tunes. I've done it a few times with bands and just walked away feeling like more of a slut than the slut I really am afterwards.

We're only going to have one rehearsal between now and 10/15. We're going to try to add a few songs then. This weekend we're auditioning lead guitarists (the old one will play gigs until the new guy is up to speed). We're rehearsing the following weekend. Taking the following weekend off. Gigging on 10/8.
