Gibson thunderbirds

Hey guys i want to get a gibson thunder bird but i dont no what type to get ?

any ideas

i dotn want to spend more then $1500

I tried out a Nikki Six model a few years back, it was ok. But I did not fall in love with it.

well right now there is the Standard T-Bird:

as well as the Studio Models. They are available as a 4 or a 5 and have a set neck as oppossed to neck through:

of course there is the Epiphone Elite whick might be the best value as it features a through neck as well as USA pickups, electronics etc.

I have seen a few T-Birds on ebay for less than $1000 lately

I really like the new Thunderbird Studio - mainly because of the modern bridge, but I haven't seen one in a store yet. I think they only came out 6 months ago.

 

Also, you may want to look for one of those old RD Artists.

They seem to have made quite a comeback, but they're getting pricey.

Go with a used regular gibbo bird. They usually go for less than 1k used on fleabay.

I can't say, I am still waiting for my T-bird Studio bass, they are new, so taking some TIME to get delivered!!!

 

I bought the studio version because I like set necks. I have read good things about the Epiphone version, which would cost you less than 1/3 what you have to spend. If you WANT to spend $1500, then just get the Gibson T-bird IV and be done with it!!

I've wanted one since I knew that Leon Wilkenson from Skynrd used one. I'm torn between that a Ric, another Jazz bass, or a Stingray. Torn I tell 'ya!!

Get a used Gibson standard T-bird. They're still relatively reasonable on Ebay or gbase. I got mine (1991 model) used for $975 in 1998. I've heard good stuff about the Epiphone Elitist T-bird, and some of the '70s Japanese clones (Ibanez, Greco) look pretty authentic, tho' I can't testify to the tone.
