Members megadan
I'm thinking about selling my SWR 350 and looking for a head with a little more dirt... the SWR is an awesome amp with an awesome sound though... but I'd like to try a different tone... something that will play really clean and smooth and punchy (no vintage "warmth"), but will get dirty when I really dig in hard. I'm thinking about ampeg, GK, old Peavey, what else? Most anything I get would have to be ebayed, so model numbers, reviews I can check out, auctions, all would be appriciated. Members fretless
GK 800rb gets as clean or dirty as you need , and you can find that sweet spot just as you are looking for , when you dig in .

Members megadan
Like this:http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Gallien-Krueger-GK-700RB-II-Bass-Amp-Head-w-Warnty_W0QQitemZ7352064076QQ? I really like the fact that it is stereo (right?), being able to EQ/level my 2x10 and my 1x18 would be awesome. edit: frig I hate linking to ebay auctions now. item Number 7352064076 was what I was going for
Members megadan
Actually, you know, I was about to delete this post right after I posted it. I do own a vintage, all tube bass amp... it just needs to be fixed up, costing a lot less than a new amp but I'm worried about the modern usability of a vintage tube amp. It's only 8 ohms, there are no effects loops or DI's... I have a sansamp but whats the point of me hearing vintage tube tone and the audience hearing blank blah solid state bass through the PA? Many DI's have an input attenuator that will allow the use of the speaker signal coming OUT of the amp.

My tech said not to use the Ext. speaker out by itself so. But I always just daisy chain the cabs and not use the Ext speaker out so.

I moot point, really, since I don't own any 4 ohm cabs, but still... would be nice to run both cabs at once.
