is there anywhere on reverend's site to see their basses or order one? www.reverenddirect.com

I can only find info on their guitars, and a google search turns up a lot less about these basses than I had hoped. What gives? Are these the bass community's best-kept secret? If so, I want in on the conspiracy now!!

From what I gather, the basses weren't pulling in enough profit to continuely produce them so they had to cut the Rumble Fish's life short. Sunburstbasser and King Kashue are Rumble Fish players so they could shed some more light onto what happened. In fact, I think it was King Kashue who had purchased the last bass they made.

Yep. KK got a Brad Houser bass, the last made.

Reverend just couldn't sell enough basses to keep making them. Its not because they were poorly made or anything. If anything, they are BETTER than most things in the sub-$1200 range.

I think it was a combination of styling and design that turned a lot of players off. Most guys would have played them if they were solid bodies, but the hollow body is VERY resonant. More resonant than any solid body I've played so far. And it doesn't really suit some styles very well. People who slap a lot aren't going to like a Reverend, for instance.

Besides a little nitpicking though, they are as nice as anything. I'd say my Reverend plays and sounds at least as nice as a Lakland Skyline Joe Osbourn bass, the necks feel exactly the same and the passive tones are both similar, kind of the 70s Jazz sound. The Reverend retailed for a few hundred less, though.

Maybe someday Joe Naylor will bring basses back. There is a Korean line of Reverend guitars now, for instance, so it could happen.

I'd be all over that.

Ah, I believe I misunderstood you!:D

If the Stage King series really takes off, perhaps then Joe might consider at least a Korean bass line, especially since the interest in the basses has really gone up in the last year.

I believe next Friday marks the 1 year anniversary of the discontinuation of Rev basses.:(
