Members Thunderbroom Posted September 25, 2005 Members Posted September 25, 2005 My MIM P bass strung with flats and tuned BEAD is now the #1 bass in my arsenal for the country band. I took it today to try it out. The band loved it. I never played the Tribute. Wow...I'm back to my first bass.
Members i_wanna_les_paul Posted September 25, 2005 Members Posted September 25, 2005 Well, then, you better send the Tribute to me so I can keep it maintained when it's not being played. I won't even charge you for my services. I'm good like that. Seriously, though, it's good to hear that you found right the bass for the situation. However, you're really making me want to try my bass BEAD. What gague of strings are you using? Dustin

Members i_wanna_les_paul Posted September 26, 2005 Members Posted September 26, 2005 Are the strings still tight and all? *Eyes bass - looks at spare set of .45-105 strings...* Hmm....

Members Thunderbroom Posted September 26, 2005 Author Members Posted September 26, 2005 Originally posted by beam Something I will gladly take the blame for The rhythm guitarist (and band leader) called me at home last night to tell me how good my bass sounded at rehearsal and said he hopes I'll continue to use it.
Members bassplayer7770 Posted September 26, 2005 Members Posted September 26, 2005 It seems to me the band loves whatever you do. Are you sure it's not you they love instead of the bass? Keep up the good work!

Are you sure it's not you they love instead of the bass? Keep up the good work! I think that they love that I play simply. Little do they know that I only know how to play simply. They were really patient with me yesterday. We added three new songs for our upcoming gig with sludgebass69's band. Two were of the country variety and the third was "Sweet Home Alabama". I didn't really bother much with SHA while learning tunes this past week as I was busy with work and figured I could wing it. The song is simple enough. When we played it the first time yesterday, something was missing from the tune. Our drummer and lead guitarist realized that I wasn't playing this subtle, yet important lick...it's like a 16th note hammer-on from C to D. I had trouble at first getting the timing down (I'm not good at picking stuff up like this on the spot...lack of experience I suppose), but they both worked with me for a few minutes and I got it!

Not likely since my MIM P bass sounds so good! I suppose if anything, I could probably go for a passive P bass special (if they still make 'em)...great P bass tone with a J neck.

However, you can get them used for pretty good prices. Now, if you planned on adding that to your arsenal, you might want to toy with different pickups perhaps? Though if your only reason for going with that would be for the Jazz neck, and not so much the bridge pickup...you might just want to get a Jazz warmoth neck for the MIM
Members Thunderbroom Posted September 26, 2005 Author Members Posted September 26, 2005 I'll likely not buy/change anything. I'm pretty happy with all my basses. I've not gassed for anything since I got the Tribute. I'm realizing that the tools are not nearly as important as the person operating them. My time is best spent improving my overall musicianship. I'm going to sound like me whether I play an SX or a Sadowsky.
Members Markee Posted September 26, 2005 Members Posted September 26, 2005 yeah,...dairy products cause the worst G.A.S.....what?
Members s4001 Posted September 26, 2005 Members Posted September 26, 2005 Fun. Can't beat a P with flats for country.
Members themusicdude Posted September 26, 2005 Members Posted September 26, 2005 man i can't imagine playing in B with a .105. I use a .130 in standard! -am

(except for a couple MIA Fender standards at 200% over the list back home!! makes me want to order from Japan but the import duty here is silly otherwise I would nail this tomorrow: or this (in black): only $500 brand new for either....but the damn import tax 18%!!

The Skyline was pretty decent overall, but $800'ish for a Korean bass? IMHO, the MTD Kingston or MM SUB are better buys, but they're not a P either[sigh]. Call me a fool, but I'd shell out a bit mo' for the Am. Fender P.

I loved the Skyline..that Lindy Fralin Pick up is so sweet ...sadly the MIA Fenders here are $1500US or so....for 1/3 of that the MIJ looks great (mind you I am a sucker for MIJ Fenders....oooh the necks) + both those models I posted have the US pickups..... however I think I am going to try to get an Essex P sent over....I am going to post a thread asking for someone to help me get one over here....that damn one you posted with the BL p.u.!!
