Members DetourMS Posted September 30, 2005 Members Posted September 30, 2005 Newbie here so please be patient. Bought an old Nemesis NC-200 and I cannot get it going. Either I got ripped off or I am clueless. I hope it is the latter. I turn up the Master to get volume and it does not get any real volume unless I turn up the gain. As soon as I turn up the gain a tiny bit it distorts terribly. Attached are pics of the controls. Am I missing something?
Members Tlaloc Posted September 30, 2005 Members Posted September 30, 2005 internal speaker switch. Try flipping that on. It it still doesnt work, I'm not sure. maybe your jack is broken on the bass. Hope it works out!
Members musicjunky Posted September 30, 2005 Members Posted September 30, 2005 is there a standby or mute switch on the top left, i couldnt tell. that may be it.. my trace has a standby switch, but sound will still come through even if it is on, just really really soft.
Members scarecrowbob Posted September 30, 2005 Members Posted September 30, 2005 Say, is that a preamp volume knob by the input jack?

Members Cortfan Posted September 30, 2005 Members Posted September 30, 2005 Those are pretty decent amps. Take it to a tech before you trash it.

Members D Aussie Posted September 30, 2005 Members Posted September 30, 2005 yes. speaker off switch is a bastard. nice to stop pops. bastard when you cant work what the fuk is going on. its behind the power switch nice choice, btw.
Members D Aussie Posted September 30, 2005 Members Posted September 30, 2005 yeah, mate.. if that is how you have the settings right now.. no wonder it isnt making a sound.turn everytjhing up to 12 o clock and see what happens.gain needs be more than ZERO
Members D Aussie Posted September 30, 2005 Members Posted September 30, 2005 Hmm.. I should read before I jump to conclusions. TYou say it distorts if the gain is even very low? That is a problem. Are you sure your bass isnt {censored}ing up?Can you check against another device, another amp?Is your bass passive or active?
Members Zeromus-X Posted September 30, 2005 Members Posted September 30, 2005 Turn the gain and master volume up to about 40-50%. Turn your bass guitar volume to 0% (the knob(s) on the bass). Now, slowly turn the bass guitar volume up. Do you hear anything? If it gets louder and louder and then distorts, the pickups are probably too hot for the amp. If you want a clean sound out of the amp, run the master full out, and turn the gain up to get louder. If you want a distorted sound, turn the gain to full, and then bring the master up. Do both of these very slowly, as the volume can jump pretty quick! Does the bass have a battery in it? I'm not familiar with Ashdowns so I can't be any more helpful. I'm sure if this doesn't fix it, someone will be able to suggest something else.
Members DetourMS Posted September 30, 2005 Author Members Posted September 30, 2005 Thanks guys. Tried everything and it looks like the amp needs to be serviced. Luckily I have a good friend who is a full time tech. When he diagnoses it I will let you guys know what was up.Thanks again for helping!

I saw the blue and assumed it was an Ashdown. I don't play Edens either, so the same advice follows, I suppose.
Members Thumper Posted September 30, 2005 Members Posted September 30, 2005 Don't let yourself get discouraged or get down on the amp just yet. Nemesis are great amps. Check out the website at www.eden-electronics.com for a copy of the owner's manual. It can take little fiddling with the eq to get your sound, but it's worth the effort.

Thanks. I found the manual on the site. I will follow through the setting routine they have and see if that does it. Thanks again. Either way, your post made me feel better.
CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted September 30, 2005 CMS Author Posted September 30, 2005 Doesn't this amp have a tube preamp? I think it's a 7025. If it's failing, the exact problem you describe is possible.
CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted September 30, 2005 CMS Author Posted September 30, 2005 Then again, maybe it doesn't have a pre-tube. I don't know, it's been a long week.
