You could get one of those small fountains that jsut keeps recylcing it's own water.

Put red water in it, and set it on your rig :D

You're being sarcastic, right? That one could easily earn one a Darwin award. The water's not contained, right? OOOOOO...Kaaaaay...

I'm not talking a huge fountain here. I've seen a few that don't use much water at all. You just lay down a thin sheet of plastic, and put the fountain on that. It would only spill if you knocked it over :(

Remember those glow-sticks the stores all sell around Halloween?

I found some glow ropes once. Same thing, but it was a rope, really thin. Cost like 1$ each. A few of those activated and placed around your speakers might looke really cool.

There is some company who makes blank rack spaces with blinking lights, knobs, and sliders that don't actually do anything, but look cool. This is sad, but I've considered buying decible meters, graphic EQs, and other stuff that I would probably never need but would look awesome in my rack.

I HAVE thought of swapping out my standard bulbs for colored ones in my power/light rack.

That's as pimped as I get. I took the pink bulbs from my kids' nightlights and put them in my power/light rack. Shines a nice muted reddish light, instead of harsh white.

I have a sound-activated one of these in my rack:-

CathodeBlueGreen.jpg

...illuminating a 1-rackspace 'cutout' of the band name.

(inexpensive and runs on 12v DC. Do a google search for "PC case mods" and/or "cold cathode" to find your nearest supplier.)

This is cool!

I'd have to buy a larger rack though to pull it off.

I used the neon rings around my speakers. On a PR410HLF, there was just enough room to fit them behind the grille. Held them on with cable ties. Worked well.

We used to also put blue neon underneath all the amps and under the drum riser. Everything had this eerie glow to it, and occasionally we'd do it sound-activated. If you jumped the sensitivity up enough (stick the speaker for it inside an insulated box since it's so loud), you could make the lights only turn on when your individual instrument was playing. Or the snare drum because that just travelled through whatever soundproofing you gave it.

If you don't want to spend the money on neons, rope light looks just as good provided you can't actually see the lights. If you have ports in the cabinet, toss some lights in those too. I just can't stand the look of ropelight if you can see the actual lights.

To be fair I don't think that would win a Darwin award. I think the best you could hope for was to be nominated.

I've been thinking a pair of black light bulbs, ala Trace.
