Yet again the amp I bought off of ebay about 9 months ago crapped out on me. After blowing about $160 to get it fixed the first time I'm expecting to spend at least that much to get it fixed again.

It's an Ampeg B4 head. For some reason their is hardly any sound coming out of the speakers. And what does come out is faint and sounds lie I have waaay to much distortion on it. This is the last time I buy an amp off of ebay. My first stand alone amp was a hartke 4000 that I bought off of the "bay". It worked great for about a year. then it just died on me. So I took it in to get fixed and they told me that it was actually missing parts. Missing parts?!? WTF!

So now I'm going ot have to rescheduale trying out a drummer tomorrow because I don't have anoter amp. Well I do but it's about 30 watts and a piece of garbage. UGGGGGGGGGHHHHH

I'd love to at this point but I don't have the cash right now to cover the difference. Unfortunatly my car stereo decided to F up this past week as well so I need to get that fixed. Ugh When it rains it pours

So you're saying I take that to GC and do a straight trade for it? I can't imagine that i'd get more than $500 for it. And all the amps in that price range are way to underpowered for my speakers. It's a good idea though in a pinch. I'll just get it fixed and ride it out for a bit, then start saving for another one.

yeah they won't give you much for it especially if it's broken , but I am saying to unload the problem amp when you can after it's fixed ofcourse and I was suggesting you apply for the credit at GC so you can get another amp Fast with no cash out of pocket and return it if you didn't like it or keep a fresh new amp .

I think I may do that down the road a bit. Its a shame to that I've had this many problems wiht this thing because i like the way it sounds......when it's running of course

I hope between the two amps dying, you used new speaker cables and added a power conditioner. those two items (or being without) can spell death for nearly any amp if the power incoming is dirty and spiky, and if the speaker cable has (even a small) short in it.

just some preliminary thoughts

Yea I have a power conditioner in my rack for this amp and I had to buy all new cables to run this thing so I know it's not either of those things. Just {censored}ty luck I guess.

Ampeg B series = a little less quality than Behringer.

I'm sorry but as a former Ampeg B series owner, this just confirms my belief that they are simply crappy amps with an nice name. Mine lasted like a week. At least my Behringer still soldiers on.

Well hopefuly the damn thing lasts a bit longer this time around so I can save up enough money to get a more reliable am. I always liked the sound of the SVTs. although I think I'm becoming a fan of mesa as well. Ahh so many choices

you can have problems with just about any piece of gear , but it's always nice when the manufacturer helps you get it fixed when there is a problem . Have you contacted Ampeg about this amp ?

I called their shop once and left a message. Of course they never got back to me.

We have a shop in town that specializes in fixing any kind of sound gear. they do really good work and have fixed several other things I've had, plus the turnover is fairly reasonable. Since I don't have a back up amp I didn't want to send this amp to Ampeg and then have to wait for months to get it back

yea it's the same place. The problem I had with it before if different than whatever is wrong with it now. I'm dropping it off at lunch and I'm going to make sure to mention about it being there before.

What really pisses me off about this whole thing is that I bought this off of ebay because I was trying to be thrifty. Now between what I payed for it and the cost of getting it fixed, plus all the other hassels I should have just bought a new one. I was actually thinking about buying a tube amp but went with the soid state instead because I figured the tube on would cause me more problems. Little did I know

I can't tell you how much $ I have waisted  Well they should atleast consider the problems maybe related or perhaps just missed it when they were in there looking for something else , either way I bet the give you a reduced rate . Good Luck ;)

Oh I'm not getting my hopes up for any kind of rate reduction. Thanks though.

Now I'm GASing for a new amp. I just want to chuck this thing down a flight of steps and be done with it
