Members Detox Posted October 5, 2005 Members Posted October 5, 2005 I'd love to have left-handed stuff like this to choose from.
Members bleepo Posted October 5, 2005 Members Posted October 5, 2005 no hope of that for us, mang... what do you play?

Members bleepo Posted October 5, 2005 Members Posted October 5, 2005 how is the Turser? I've wondered about that and the Rondo violin bass. I don't have a group shot, but I have a MIM jazz, a Thumb 5 bolt on, and a Yamaha BBN5... As well as Samick P I defretted. Never seen a lefty 'ray4 around here... Just a haggard Ray5 with the worst setup ive ver seen.
Members Don MC Posted October 5, 2005 Members Posted October 5, 2005 I'm a lefty. But I PLAY righty. That was a very wise (and deliberate) choice back when I was a beginner. I'm having no trouble finding instruments to buy.My more agile left hand fingers work marvels on the fretboard as well. -M-
Members bleepo Posted October 5, 2005 Members Posted October 5, 2005 I wasn't a logical 13 year old. But at least i'm true to my roots.

I quickly realised that playing lefty would only pose disadvantages for playing a guitar or bass.

It sounds right for the kind of stuff we are doing, and it's comfortable to play. Too bad the bridge pickup quit working a long time ago. It would be nice if I could find a complete set of electronics from a real Hof to put in the JT. As for the other two basses, I wouldn't have any problem trading one or both of them for a nice '60s - '70s P. Nothing particularly wrong with them, I just prefer an "older" sounding tone. As it is, I play them with the treble/mid dials on 0, and the bass turned all the way up.

Playing "right" is just wrong for me. Also, I'm not completely left-handed, I just do things the way they feel the most natural. Ferinstance, I throw a baseball lefty, but I bat righty. I also golf and play hockey right-handed. I write lefty, but prefer to use a right-handed mouse with my computers.

Everything else (such as bass, like I mentioned earlier) I do right-handed (and yes, THAT too). Some things, like play tennis or badminton, I do BOTH-handed. -DMC-
Members Subsonicbass Posted October 5, 2005 Members Posted October 5, 2005 Lefty - Play Right. I figured most other instruments are for right-hand only;and lefties play those all the time.So why play bass guitar left? I have also found that having your most articulate handwith the most strength makes the best sense for fretting. I don't know how righties use their 'spastic' hand for fretting.

Hey, Detox, I'm not very interested in trading, but I'm selling my 1978 P-Bass. It has a sienna sunburst finish with maple fretboard. I'll send you pics if you're interested. Thanks.

"have you ever given yourself a stranger?" LOL... Yeah, I'm a lefty too, or otherwise pretty ambidextreous... I shoulda been lefty on guitar... My friend got a piece of {censored} lefty guitar when he was wanting to learn, and I tried that way a bit. When I bought a bass though, I bought a righty seeing that most of the basses I was interested in didn't come in lefty... I'm glad I made that decision ten years later... I still find that my picking hand can't keep up with my fretting hand sometimes though... It's weird though for me.. I write with my right hand, throw with my left, I can catch with both though... I kick with both feet about evenly... I swing a club or a racket evenly either way too... This really helps with chores like sweeping, and painting and such.. One hand gets tired, use the other! As for the other deed mentioned, I prefer to let my wife do that...
