Cort is a solid company that makes some very good basses. They are one of (if not the) number 1 OEM manufacturer for other bass retailing companies. For instance Cort makes all Korean made Ibanez models, Lakland Skylines, MTD Korean made models, Conklin Groove Tools, KSD and a few popular Domestic Korean Brands (www.dame.co.kr)

As well they make some great instruments under their own name as well check their website for some nice ones

no but I also don't have a great number of basses I like in my Sig.

I prefer passive basses and most of the Cort stuff I like is active. If the Rocco Signature Bass they made for Conklin is ever available at a good rate I will snag it in a second. Even though it is active

I have often considered getting the Billy Cox Freedom bass (active as well but with on off toggle I think

The Lakland Skyline basses they make KILL (I used to have a Bob Glaub....stolen :( )

www.lakland.com

Some Skylines are like Cort Artisans, some are like the Master Built series.

There is not (to my knowledge) a Cort bass similar to the Bob Glaub...it is a sweet sweet P

EDIT: skylines and similar are a great deal more than the Ibanez you were looking at though...just FYI

I've got two of the older versions of Cort's GB series. I've played the current ones as well.

The GB 99s are a great bass EXCEPT they cut corners by using Mighty Mite pickups. A pickup swap is definately in order to get the best sound out of those basses. Same goes for the 74/75. The older Korean models, like my GB-54, had really nice pickups and sound a lot like a Stingray but not the current ones.

For what you get though, the price is great! The necks were tight, the hardware was top-notch (more comparable to basses costing 3x as much and more!), and the finish was very nice. The pickups on the GBs are the only weak points.

Really, for about another $150 for pickups, the GB 99 would be as nice as any Jazz out there costing a lot more.

If you've got Cort questions let me know!

Sorry, I didn't see this thread earlier. I really like my Cort Billy Cox Freedom bass. You can read my review in the HC Review section. I have had it over 5 years, and its still my #1 bass. I have a Fender Musicmaster that is way lighter, and easier on my old back, and a new Peavey 5 stringer that I like, but I'm still getting used to. Unless, I'm dead tired from a 3 hour load in, I will play the Cort for all 4 sets. My band says they can definitely tell the difference in tone. BTW, Prestia, the pickups are passive with an active preamp, which means if the battery dies you lose about 3 db's of volume, but it still plays. And sunburstbasser, I swapped out my Mighty Mite pups for some Rio Grande Muy Grande bass pups, and my guitar tech looked at me with a funny look. The MightyMite's were actually hotter in passive form than the Muy Grande's, so we put the MM right back in. ymmv. Anyway, I really like my Cort, and honestly I could have put a lot more expensive bass on my credit card than this $415.00 jewel .

If you are wanting the Duck's P sound, get a Cort with a P pup, not a Warwick. Warwick is awesome, but has a sound all its own, like a Ric. Try them and see for yourself. Duck comes to Memphis once a year to play at Bluesville (Horseshoe Casino @ Tunica) with Booker T. and Steve Cropper. All he brings is one of his fire engine red Fender Signature P basses. He's a bass playing machine.
