Members Rippin' Robin
Well, I investigated my Ampeg 4x8" cab (see http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=13454161 ) To cut the story short, two speakers are blown, as in: physically broken. The metal frame wobbles. Does anyone know which speakers Ampeg uses for the 4x8" cabinet? My guess is that they are re-badged Eminence drivers, (they're stamped SLM electronics 86-127-08). And yes, then the second question: does anyone happen to have two 8"speakers collecting dust somewhere, or know where to get the best deal on Eminence drivers? Any input greatly appreciated. Members mike fitzwell
They are Eminence drivers. I've read on past threads that the prices for replacement speakers directly from Ampeg are very good. Try giving them a call.
Members Rippin' Robin
I'll send Ampeg an e-mail but considering the weight of the speakers shipping from the USA will probably undo the benefit of ordering direct. I'll try it anyway.
Members mike fitzwell
Damn I forgot you're all the way over there! Maybe try a local Ampeg distributor? Good luck in your search!

Maybe I'll just sell the cab with 2 dead speakers and get me a second-hand 410HLF, or an Avatar 212. Oh well, I guess I'll just sit around now, anxiously looking at my mailbox and clicking "Get Mail" until my ISP yells at me for retrieving my mail too often... Members 1tallbassguy
Bad news sucks. If you have a source of new speakers locally, it may be cheaper to replace all 4 of them. Try to match them as close as possible. Good Luck
