Members More Cowbell Posted October 7, 2005 Members Posted October 7, 2005 for a geriatric, the guy did alright. Can't quite hit the notes the same way he used to, but you never rode into town on your John Deere, either. Great show... Life would be a three chord song,And the King would be George Jones,If the whole world was a honky tonk.

Members bruto Posted October 7, 2005 Members Posted October 7, 2005 I saw him at the Colorado State Fair 25 years ago. He was really good. My dad knew his tour manager / bus driver. The same guy also worked for Danny Davis and the Nashville Brass, so I remember half the band being over for dinner when they were in town.
Members bnyswonger Posted October 7, 2005 Members Posted October 7, 2005 I don't know what he sounds like now, but in his prime he was the best - talented enough he could have probably been successful in any gendre. Seriously.
Members bonscottvocals Posted October 7, 2005 Members Posted October 7, 2005 Absolutely a fantastic singer in his hey-day. He was never known for fantastic vocal range, but he knew how to voice and phrase a tune that made him sound like he was a steel guitar. My dad could sing his stuff so well (God rest his soul). It was one of those things ya got or ya ain't got.
Members pbass_groovin Posted October 7, 2005 Members Posted October 7, 2005 pretty good for a High Tech Red Neck
