Members pope_face
So yes, got my Ibanez GSR100 a couple days ago, and now I've got an annoying hum. I don't remember hearing one at the shop, but it could be the setup, or my proximity to the amp. However, I can have the lows and the mids set at the mid position (can't remember the highs) on the amp, and when I've got my tone knob cranked all the way over to one side the hum goes away completely. However, as soon as I crank the tone back a little bit, the hum becomes quite pronounced, and I can still hear it a little even with the mids all the way down. Anybody have any suggestions on this? And (Yes I know most of you have probably already done this and all, but I'm just starting out...) I raised my action yesterday! And I did it all on my own... and then realized I had to retune it, so I did that. But back to the hum... anyone? Philly
Members sunburstbasser
Cheap basses hum, usually because they aren't well-shielded. Low-end amps tend to hum as well. You aren't experiencing anything abnormal. If you used a different amp at the shop, I'd bet that its your amp.
Members pope_face
Alright... well, I'm partial to the sound with the tone cranked all the way over, so it's not that bad. It's a little dark for my taste, but it's loss of a little high-end vs humming. Maybe I'll call Tom Lee and ask them about the hum... or go and try out another guitar with the same type of amp, or even my guitar with another one of the same amps. If it's the amp, I'll get it exchanged. If it's the guitar... well, maybe I'll get that exchanged... Philly

Members cthulhu0
+1 to what everyone else says flourencent lights and bad wiring effect it too... does the hum increase when facing in different directions? or in specific spots? might be able to narrow down the cause that way. Members mike fitzwell
I live across the street from a transmitter for a low-powered christian AM radio station. Talk about hearing the voice of God out of my amp.
