Members Casper Cliche
Just trying to figure out how many watts this head really is. I have heard a lot of people say 210 watts, and a lot of people say 700 watts. I had one for a while but all the writing was scratched off. All i remember is it was LOUD and it sounded great. Also what do you guys think of the heads?

Members pbass_groovin
I've been checking out old peaveys. Most say they're good...not great amps for the money, reliable, easy to fix, and make your bass sound like your bass....thats a good thing IMHO

So, if they say "400 watts" they probably mean 400 watts into 2 ohms. Your typical bass cab is 8 ohms. If you use 2, you'll have a 4 ohm load. At 4 and 8 ohms, that head should be putting out something in the ballpark of 250 watts and 150 watts respectively. Emre
Members Fogman
Is this the Classic 400 Bass head? If so, its 400W into 4 or 8 ohms according to the manual. Manual(.pdf)
Members MrJoshua
I have a late-seventies Peavey 400 series. It's 210 watts into 2 ohms. Not the loudest thing around, but it sounds decent and gets loud enough through a 2x10 and 2x15.

Members LanEvo
I don't think he's being offered a 400 watt all-tube amp for $75. He didn't say "Classic 400" but "Peavey 400 Series." That's a 100% solid state amp. I would expect 400 watts into 2 ohms. Emre
