Members bassplayer7770 Posted October 8, 2005 Members Posted October 8, 2005 ...or at least that's what the drunk black guy told me at my gig last night. Our singer's mom's boyfriend asked if he and a friend of his (the bass player from Phil Dirt and the Dozers) could sit in on guitar and sing "Route 66" with the drummer and me. The drummer and I had never played it before, but we winged it as best we could, and I'll be damned if those guys didn't sound DAMN good! The "bass player" played a FANTASTIC lead! Anyway, this drunk guy was standing behind me the entire frickin' song tapping on my shoulder and playing air bass when I'd turn around, and, apparently, he was trying to tell me to play what he thought I should be playing. After we were done he was asking me if I was scared, that I couldn't play, and he didn't have any respect... Oh, darn... Everybody in the band plus the guys filling in to play "Route 66" were backing me up, but that didn't do any good. Anyway, he started pissing me off, so I just turned my back to him, but he wouldn't go away, and the rest of the band was trying to get on stage at the time, so they finally had to tell him to move. Before they approached the stage, they had no idea what was going on... Ugh...

Members james on bass Posted October 8, 2005 Members Posted October 8, 2005 Apparantly, he needed a good, swift kick in the nads!

When you're put in an awkward situation, best thing to do is just grin and bear it, and you apparently did just that.

Members Gruven Posted October 9, 2005 Members Posted October 9, 2005 I would've handed him the bass and stood behind him tapping him on the shoulder... What a jerk! You know what they say: Instant a$$hole, just add alcohol. I used to be from Ohio, Where were you playing?

That way the big mirophonic thump (add muted string sounds here) that comes through the pickups will mix with the drum beat and add to the overall flavor of the tune (hehe!). Of course I'm kidding...
Members ezstep Posted October 9, 2005 Members Posted October 9, 2005 Apparently, I can't play... Pfffttt! I have been told that by some very good musicians! wait. . . .HEY! Nevermind.

Members RSBro Posted October 19, 2005 Members Posted October 19, 2005 Originally posted by takeout Exactly."So... where's your band playing tonight? Oh, wait..." This is my favorite option by far. You're at this {censored}ty bar just like I am. At least I'm on stage getting free drinks and looks by drunk chicks. You suck. We one time had this 15-year old kid (I swear to God) come sit down at this outdoor deal we were doing in front of the stage. our drummer had brought like a 1/3 of his kit; kick, snare, hh, ride, and that's it. He was doing some little fills and warm-up stuff, and I was still setting up so I guess he didn't think I was paying attention. Anyways he starts talking {censored} to his other 15-year old pimple-faced knucklehead, about how he could totally wail on our drummer (which happens to be the best drummer I've ever seen live, much less played with- people who come to our shows agree- he's off the charts), and after a minute or so I just stopped what I was doing and said "Hey, do you want to come up and show off your skills or just sit there and talk like we can't hear you?" He got all red and he and his friend went back and sat with their parents and little sisters with a look of death in their faces. It was great. We told the drummer about it later and he ripped off the best solo I've heard him do to-date and afterwards dedicated it to the kids in the back...awesome.

I was playing at a club once and some guy from the crowd yelled at me to throw that pick away and play with my fingers like I should. What he didn't realize is that he was sitting right next to my brother. That dude got an earful. My brother said "Is that why he is up there and you are down here?":thu:
