Members Emprov Posted October 10, 2005 Members Posted October 10, 2005 My Schroeder 1210 is getting a bit lonely and letting me know that it was't designed to handle what I'm asking of it. Since it seems to be loaded with a Delta 12LF and a Delta 10, I was thinking about replicating the box sans horn but now I'm kind of thinking that I'd like to build a smallish 115. Eminence drivers seems to like big boxes though, what do you know about Selenium?
Members burdizzos Posted October 10, 2005 Members Posted October 10, 2005 Am I reading this correctly? Holy crap!
Members Emprov Posted October 10, 2005 Author Members Posted October 10, 2005 Not sure but it'd need to be 23"w and 16" deep to be comfy with the Schroeder. Height ain't a big deal but I don't want anything too tall, preferably under 20" but I don't want to ignore basic laws of physics if you know what I mean.
Members burdizzos Posted October 10, 2005 Members Posted October 10, 2005 SELENIUM WPU1509-SLF Plus two of these. 23x16x20 made of 3/4" and you're good to go. -3 dB at about 45 Hz. A bigger box would be better, but that's the best you're going to get out of a compact 1x15. Now, if you put the SELENIUM WPU1209-SLF in that same box, you get a -3 dB point of about 38 Hz, but you'll lose a couple of dBs in cab sensitivity. You can't go wrong either way.
Members Emprov Posted October 10, 2005 Author Members Posted October 10, 2005 Thanks! I was actually thinking of the 12" WPU with Galaxy Audio S5N-8, what did you do about a crossover for your anti-ghetto rig?
Members burdizzos Posted October 10, 2005 Members Posted October 10, 2005 I built one. Inductor capacitor Should get you in the right neighborhood.
Members Emprov Posted October 10, 2005 Author Members Posted October 10, 2005 That's probably the most basic crossovers that I've ever seen. Ok, I've seen one cap before but still! How's the response look, pretty flat? Any bumps along the way?
Members Emprov Posted October 10, 2005 Author Members Posted October 10, 2005 Ok, (and man, I gotta get off this forum and get some work done!), how would the 1509 look with the Galaxy and a possible L-pad in the same cab?
Members burdizzos Posted October 10, 2005 Members Posted October 10, 2005 I think that would be the exact cab that I'd build for myself right now if I needed a cab. minus the L-pad, though.

Members burdizzos Posted October 10, 2005 Members Posted October 10, 2005 The crossover that I previously discussed. I really don't see the need for an L-pad. The Galaxy is no where near as harsh as a horn.
Members Emprov Posted October 10, 2005 Author Members Posted October 10, 2005 The L-pad thing, I guess i'm just looking for a touch of articulation and the ability to adjust is kind of cool. BTW, what shocked you about my post?
Members Thunderbroom Posted October 10, 2005 Members Posted October 10, 2005 Originally posted by Emprov BTW, what shocked you about my post? I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that it has to do with something being said that could be construed as negative about Schroeder cabs. Your comment really wasn't negative, but the fact that you said it couldn't handle what you were throwing at it (granted you qualified it by saying that it wasn't necessarily designed to do what you wanted it to do). Damn...I think I just confused myself!?!
Members burdizzos Posted October 10, 2005 Members Posted October 10, 2005 That's the first thing I've ever heard about a Schroeder that was less than fantastic.

Well heck, I'm confused now too! The more I gig with it, the more I'm learning about it, particularly in outdoor gigs. I think that I've brought this thing pretty darn close to it's breaking point more than once and I'm not really interested in taking it any farther. So, I'm looking to get some backup for it. It's a cool cab and all, I feel that it just needs a little help as it's only a 12 and a 10. Also consider that, until two years ago, I was gigging with a pair of Ampeg 410s and there's no way that the Schroeder is going to stand up to those. I've been searching long and hard for a single small cab that will do what larger cabs will do, the Schroeder comes the closest but I've concluded that, if you want a big sound, you gotta have more than a single small cab.

Members burdizzos Posted October 10, 2005 Members Posted October 10, 2005 Yep, there's no replacement for displacement.
Members Emprov Posted October 10, 2005 Author Members Posted October 10, 2005 Originally posted by burdizzos Yep, there's no replacement for displacement. Ok, you're either ex-navy or you frequent gay bars. I ain't gonna take a guess as to which one.
Members burdizzos Posted October 10, 2005 Members Posted October 10, 2005 Both, actually. One of my best friends is a lesbian, we shoot pool on a regular basis at one of the local gay bars. The "no replacement for displacement" is typically applied to engines by tuner guys. I'm not sure what the navy or gay bars have to do with it.
