Members greenshag
they can have growl and grit, but not in the typical Ampeg sense of growl and grit, they are a bit more defined growl and grit, with a lovely mid-range presence... Could you elaborate please?I'm looking for the ampeg growl and grit without the extreme coloration. That is the ultimate for me.Incubus' Dirk Lance type growl/grit.I'm running out of amps to try (not literally) but $$ wise yes.If I can get that I can stop looking and start selling. Thanks greenshag! CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted October 11, 2005 CMS Author Share Posted October 11, 2005 Nope, haven't owned an Eden, but have heard many of 'em. I'd suggest you do the same so your decision is based on more than a name and words on a forum. Really....it's like describing "red" to a blind person. Eden's color the signal....all amps do.....but the flavor is not the same as Ampeg. Some describe it as having a harder edge than Ampeg. The cabinets are very loud, possibly the most useful (real) efficiency of any common production bass cab. I've attended many shows supported by a WT- and a single D-210XLT. Members Tlaloc
I once had an Eden head (WT400). Yes, it had growl and grit, but a more midrange sort of sound and not as colored as Ampeg, which sounds like it's what you're looking for. And if you're looking for a Dirk Lance sort of tone, I suppose Eden is the way for you because I am pretty damn sure he used Eden amps.

Members takeout
Dirk Lance uses Eden, so if you're going for his sound, that's probably a good place to start. That, or Warwick > tube DI > API preamp > Empirical Labs Distressor > Pro Tools. But that would be a lot of gear to schlep around...

Yes Dirk uses eden stuff but I'm not sure if he's getting that killer tone from the $30billion dollar rig he uses or the demeter tube compressor.......I had an SVT3 PRO a few weeks back and it had some nice grit and growl that was kickin'......just hated the extreme coloration of it.If the eden can match that without the coloration, i'm there..... Members beam
The most common description I've run across with Edens are that they are warm and dark sounding. Now, "dark" can mean a lot of things to different people...so yea, trying one should clear things up

I like how they have the same line, but played thru different pres, so you can actually tell the differences in sound, and not just what you are hearing from the guy playing the line...it has been bookmarked!
