MIA Precision basses are great. Used MIA = great buy, New MIA = great buy.

The Bnyswonger signature bass is a great bass for the money. PJ, Japanese, had for $350 and under -used.
Members der oxenrig
If you can find them, definately look at the Fender '62 Reissue P-basses. Supposed to be a step up in quality from the MIA standards.
Members basschick22
I'm very, very happy with my '96 MIA P-Bass. I bought mine used in 2000 and whoever had it before me took very good care of it, so for that I'm thankful. It's a great bass...many gigs and it's never given me trouble. Members Thumper
My favorite P was a first-year '57 P reissue. It growled like no tomorrow, and had a nice, wide, flat-radius neck. You can't beat a maple board and an anodized guard for looks. MIAs are great, especially the '57 and '63 reissues. MIJs are a great bass and are a good value. Tokai and Ibanez 'Lawsuits' are at least the equal of the American Ps of the same vintage. Whatever you do, for Pete's sake make sure you ALWAYS have a P-bass handy. You WANT the P-bass. You NEED the P-bass.

Members Munkeyfish
I got a used MIA P-bass a couple yaers back and love it! Mine is a 95 sunburst RW neck, plays a lot better than any of the MIM ones I owned, and sounds better too. There is a lot of little thing that a differnt that add up big time. But as for the new ones with S1 swicth....I never tried them. But I'm sure they rock. I sold all MIM basses to buy this one, and never looked back. Now I'm loking for a MIA jazz sunburst from 95 as well. The purfect set.....

I cant find any for sale in any of the local shops

A mexi is basically the same as an older American with maybe a little less Quality Control (although the newer mexi's are vastly improved over the last several years in this department). The new MIA's now have graphite reinforced necks and a series/parallel switch on the pup.
