Members zenfascist Posted October 14, 2005 Members Posted October 14, 2005 Anybody have experience with this test? I'm scheduled to take it on saturday, and I need all the advice I can get. It's graded on a curve, so whether or not I pass depends on the proficiency of the people that I'm testing with (that could be a burden or a blessing depending on the circumstances). Words of wisdom maybe?
Members zenfascist Posted October 14, 2005 Author Members Posted October 14, 2005 Okay, Plan B: fake like you know exactly what I'm talking about and tell me it's the easiest thing ever and I'll do great. And if you actually know what you're talking about; say so at the bottom of your post so I know.

Members sunburstbasser Posted October 14, 2005 Members Posted October 14, 2005 Don't come into the test on a full stomach, and make sure you've cleared your bowels before beginning. Doing this helped me on lots of tests in high school.
Members SoundwaveLove Posted October 14, 2005 Members Posted October 14, 2005 its easier then the sat's which are also easier then everyone makes them out to be if you payed attention 50% of the time in school you'll pass.

That could be bad news...oh well, I probably made up for it by buying a book on the test and doing all the activities and practice tests. Anyone else??
Members sludgebass69 Posted October 14, 2005 Members Posted October 14, 2005 I wouldn't worry about it, I mean it may affect the rest of your life but it's no big deal............Have a nice day.

I have to go back to school and quit my job if I don't pass (I'm only 16 though so it's not a HUGE deal) Tomorrow morning is the test!!!! I'm {censored}ting myself right now. I have taken a few practice tests and studied, so there's not a whole left for me to do in order to prepare. I should probably get to bed soon, huh?

Members zenfascist Posted October 15, 2005 Author Members Posted October 15, 2005 I have a job in the warranty department of a plumbing & construction company, and I'd like to go to college and pursue a music-related career.

I see...I kinda wish I would have left H.S. early (although my senior year was nuts). anyway, good luck on your test.I would suggest getting a full 8 hours of sleep (provided that window hasn't passed you by) and wake up early enough to work out and make yourself a good breakfast. both of those will help energize your mind.
Members yossarian Posted October 15, 2005 Members Posted October 15, 2005 I got out early by having an excess of credits, but a friend and someone else I knew took the test. Don't worry about it, the guy I knew passed it and he's dumb as a brick, named clay even! In the unlikely event that you don't pass you can do what I did and do all the independent study packets (insultingly easy...) and do your senior year during your free time over a few months. Never look back.
Members zenfascist Posted October 15, 2005 Author Members Posted October 15, 2005 Well, I took it this morning and I think it went okay. There was a lot more algebra than I thought, but I was able to work through most of it. I guess I won't know for sure if I passed or not until my "sentence" arrives in the mail. What I found out is if I don't pass one of the sections, I can just take the test again except I only have to do that particular section. Note to anyone thinking about taking the CHSPE: Don't stress out because it's not excruciatingly hard. You just have to study a little. Take some practice courses online and buy a book that is UP TO DATE because the test changes pretty frequently. Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I'll be puffin some serious cheeba tonight in celebration.

Members Mind Riot Posted November 18, 2005 Members Posted November 18, 2005 I took that test years ago and passed it too. HS sucks, or at least it did for me. It's supposed to be basic education, but junior and senior year were more like some perverted social experiment where I was. One thing that totally cracked me up was the letter I got telling me I passed with my certificate. It said: "The California Board of High School Proficiency Testing would like to warmly congratulate you on recieving a score of-" *STAMP!*PASS They go to all the trouble of writing this warm, personal form letter to let you know you passed and they don't even bother to make one with the actual word typed in. They just leave a big space for a stamp. Freaking cracked me up.
