Members mlwarriner Posted October 17, 2005 Members Posted October 17, 2005 so i'm thinking about getting a rackmount cooling fan for the genz, likely something along these lines... or i've priced a similar setup from partsexpress.com, and they're only a couple of bucks cheaper if you build your own. my question is: if there aren't problems already (the genz doesn't overheat or anything, but we're still in the drummer's basement. not on a hot, sweaty stage), will a rack fan prevent or forestall future issues with heat? is it actually better for the amp to run cooler, or would it be a superfluous expense if i'm not having problems at the moment? please and thanks!
Members fretless Posted October 17, 2005 Members Posted October 17, 2005 I got one of those , if your gear needs to breath then they help a lot . They normally suck air so I flipped the fan around to blow in to force air into my amp , but on some racks it is better to suck the air through . suck , blow whatever it works
Members Rowka Posted October 17, 2005 Members Posted October 17, 2005 Do you run the amp with the back cover on the rack, or with the back cover off? If the cover is off, I wouldn't mess with an additional fan.

Does the GBE have its own fan? If so, I wouldn't worry about it (just make sure you don't block any of the vents).

Members Rowka Posted October 17, 2005 Members Posted October 17, 2005 You're fine. Send the cash to Canadia.

Members Rowka Posted October 17, 2005 Members Posted October 17, 2005 Cool. When is Al gonna have it ready?
Members Thunderbroom Posted October 17, 2005 Members Posted October 17, 2005 You don't need a fan with the GB. They were designed to sit in a rack case and run at 2 ohms all day long. Save your money and spend it on something else.

Members agedhorse Posted October 18, 2005 Members Posted October 18, 2005 No need for an extra fan... the amp was designed to cool itself with the internal fan and in fact and external fan can alter the air flow pattern in a bad way if installed incorrrectly. I did the thermal testing myself... it's built for touring duty.

Note that those are 115 volt fans (typically) so rewiring the connector for the 12 volt supply in the PC isn't going to work... unless I mis-understand your comment?

Like Andy said, no fan is needed. I'm gigging with a GBE1200 and never worry about it.
