Members beam Posted October 17, 2005 Members Posted October 17, 2005 MM S.U.B. will certainly work for ya.
Members the hammer Posted October 17, 2005 Members Posted October 17, 2005 Have you thought about simply buying a 5 string bass?
Members cthulhu0 Posted October 17, 2005 Members Posted October 17, 2005 i;d have to agree about the MMs.. mine sounds good tuned normal, but fantastic when downtuned a step. the slacker strings just sound better. which may be why the OP may not want a 5string. "bundunrein" == intonation maybe? not sure of the used market, but here a used stingray goes for about the price of a new SUB, so it might be something to think about.
Members takeout Posted October 17, 2005 Members Posted October 17, 2005 You're talking about intonation. The more drastically different your two tunings are, the worse your intonation problem will be. If the differences are extreme, either buy a second bass or get a five-string. You'll never be completely satisfied with the results you get from just one bass.
Members Long Posted October 17, 2005 Members Posted October 17, 2005 The 5-string set might be too heavy for just tuning to D-- I'd recommend a heavy gauge 4-string set (.110 on the lowest string). Don't know if this is causing your intonation problems-- but that 5-string set tuned up to D (from B) is going to put a lot of tension on the neck.
