Members bnutz Posted October 17, 2005 Members Posted October 17, 2005 I've been toying with the idea of a wireless unit for my bass and wonder if anyone has any experience with anything they like. I figure that I'll have to spend a fair amount of money to get one that doesn't suck tone completely, because my experience with less-expensive units (under $500) hasn't been good. They always sound boxy and it seems imposible to set the gain properly. Also, does anybody know if there are units that enable you to use multiple transmitters for one receiver to allow for instrument switching? Thanks.-b
Members FreestyleIntruder Posted October 17, 2005 Members Posted October 17, 2005 FWIW wireless units seem to work much better with active than with passive PUs.
Members bnutz Posted October 17, 2005 Author Members Posted October 17, 2005 In a perfect world, I'd be using it with both. I tend play my Music Man Stingray 5 and '69 Fender J in equal amounts. But that is good to know. -b
Members Rowka Posted October 19, 2005 Members Posted October 19, 2005 Tbroom and I both have the previous generation of Sennheiser EW172 wireless systems. In fact, I have two. I keep one receiver with each rig and can keep the transmitters with my kit for the reason you stated. It's a great performer. Never any issue at all. Oh, I use it with both passive and active basses. Fine.
Members bonscottvocals Posted October 19, 2005 Members Posted October 19, 2005 I use the Shure PGX Wireless, and I've never had a problem. I do have an active (Peavey) and passive (Fender), and I have a transmitter for each. I just turn one off and the other on, and away I go. No clicks, pops, etc...

I'm sure you can buy more than one transmitter though I use the same one for my basses and engage/disengage the active switch on my head.

I've heard these are killer, affordable units. This is the model I'm getting whenever/if I go wireless.
