Thats a good question.... tonylevin.com isnt showing anything that I can find.

I will say this; after seeing him live I have determined he has the most phenomenal sound I have ever heard. It sounds every bit as good as it does on any recording.

Cool. Agreed. That's why I am asking.

Yep - that's what he was using when I saw him here a couple years ago. I saw a recent pic though, and it's something Ampeg.

The first time saw him live (King Crimson Discipline tour) he was playing through a straight up tube SVT / 8 10".

I met with Tony on bass amps at the last winter NAMM show. He had just signed with Ampeg. Right after that, Trace came back and showed product at the Frankfurt Music Fair....I think that was March. Now, Tony is back in the Trace stable.

No mention on teh new Trace site. I would think they woudl want to promote having him on board.

Did you speak to him about a Genz Benz TL sig amp?

well, I wanted to get him on Genz...that's for sure. We used to own Trace "back in the day" so we had a relationship with him....but, he had just got an endorsement with Ampeg the day before.

When Trace came back on the scene, since Clive and Paul are still there and he has a great relationship with them, that's where he went. I would have loved to have Tony on GB!

Hey, I'm an SWR guy. :D

Actually, I came v-e-r-y close to buying a Trace rig(hybrid head & 2x10 cab-same config as I've got). Maybe I should have, but Trace's QC was reportedly quite sketchy at the time.

There's just a lot of cool rig possibilities out there ....there's just too much crap to wade thru to see it.

me too! ;) I can't deny though that Trace has "their" sound and I can't knock somebody for liking it and I can't knock Tony for respecting relationships. The guys at Trace are good guys too.

Now, if we could only get Marcus. :D

Marcus could use all tube, IMHO. :D

Let's see...you could(should) pull John Taylor away from Peavey. Although I dig Peavey too, but Peavey ain't GB.

Who else...there's Sting. He too is a huge influence on me, and these day's it seems he'll endorse anything! :D

Marcus used to be a tube guy....back in the 80's he was still using SVT's. I know his bass tech well though and he says Marcus likes a faster responding amp now.

I understand. As much as I respect the guy, I just wish his tone was a bit more organic ...if that makes any sense.

makes perfect sense. He likes his tone big, cold and "steel-e".

In fact my basic tone is patterned after what you just said....like Marcus but a little more organic. Organic is the exact word I use. That's why I've gone from the "fancy wood, neck through" basses I played in the 80's back to bolt-ons. ...more organic.

Similar experience here. I played a Carvin Bunny Brunell 5-string for years. 5 piece laminate neck thru, etc... I'm playing 'Rays now.
