Members Markee Posted October 19, 2005 Members Posted October 19, 2005 I caught Johnny A at the Tractor here in Seattle Monday night. His bass player was playing two Walkabouts on top of two Mesa Boogie 1X12's I believe. I was really disappointed that the tone he produced wasn't better. He was playing a MM Bongo 5 and had several showcase moments to lead and....eh! The Tractor is a prime venue in this neck of the woods with superb acoustics in the room. What up with that?
Members RSBro Posted October 19, 2005 Members Posted October 19, 2005 Weird man! Those lil amps kill, even at 2 ohms from what I've read in reviews!! Must of been the PA weirdin' out or something..??
Members bassment zombie Posted October 19, 2005 Members Posted October 19, 2005 RSB - I had the same assumption as you, based upon some of the glowing reviews I've read about the Walkabout online. I don't have any experience playing through a Walkabout, however, I've seen/heard two different bands at different times in different venues with a bassist who used a Walkabout. Considering those reviews I've read on the internet, I expected and anticipated that it'd sound awesome, but I was surprised when I found that it just sounded 'fine' - not particularly better than other bassists I've heard who have played through an old G-K or Peavey amp, for example. One bassist played a Reverend Rumblefish, the other a Fender Jazz. I'd still like to hear more of them, but that's my take for my limited observer's experience.
