Are you using a metronome when you do that exercise? If your not, I REALLY suggest using one for at least that warmup!

Oh, and heres one blues scale you might want to learn!

G-------------------------------

D------------------------5--7-------

A------------5--6--7----------

E----5---8------------------

This is just some generic blues scale but it sounds really cool!

Can you do a clip of it so I can hear what it sound's like?

An to anser your question Yes I use a metrodome for my playing set at 100 pbpm. ( I know I still suckage bad ).

psst... they're called enharmonics B# = C, B## = C# etc. That may be a bit more advanced than where derek is at now, but they do show up from time to time.

edit.

dammit! why am I always late on these explanations?

anyway, keep up the good work Derek, I can tell you've been praticing.

btw, do you have a metronome? if not, I strongly recommend you get one. a metronome is the best tool you can have as a musician, next to your instrument. in fact, I know you use Audacity, and I think there is one built in. Look into that. It can make a world of difference

I attached an mp3 of the blues scale to this file, to give you an idea. Its REALLY low quality though.

Still sound's very good. Ok I will try tomarrow but it will not be no where near as afast as you sunburster.

Don't worry, If you ever slip up on typing we'll make sure to whip you back into shape pronto!:)

Don't worry about speed. I partially played that pretty quick because I didn't want to host it somewhere else, just attach it to the post and it had to be short so...

Plus years of practicing speed makes it hard to play slow, sometimes!:D

As for the connection between Iron Man and the Blues-

Iron Man is basically an E Minor pentatonic scale over and over. The only difference is those 16th note slurs from C to B. One of those notes would usually be left out in a traditional pentatonic.

Now, that exact same scale forms the basis of most of the really popular blues styles. Iron Man is basically a really slow, heavy, loud, overly distorted blues lick. Black Sabbath was a blues band called Earth before they were Sabbath, after all. And all those Brits learned to play by copping blues licks.
