Members zachoff
Hetfield. IMO, he's one of the greatest talents of my generation. To play like he does and sing over the top without ever missing a beat is pretty amazing to me. I've seen Metallica 5 times & have never heard a mistake. I agree. i've seen them 3 times and it sounded awsome everytime. Another on my list is Dave Mustaine. How that guy plays those riffs and sings over them is unreal. Members the_big_geez
Another hard choice! I remember a friend of mine saying he thought that Tom Fogerty (Creedence Clearwater Revival) was the best guitarist because he just stayed back in the back and never got in the way of the front. It would seem that Malcom Young meets the same definition. (Malcom, btw, is Angus' favorite guitar player. No suprise there, I'm sure! Angus gets to do whatever he wants!) Pet Townsend was mentioned in the other thread, but I'mnot sure he belongs in either thread: Pete is Pete! He's not a riffmaster/bazillion notes per minute guy, but he's tasty! By the same token as Townsend is deemed a 'rhythm player', so would he have to call The Edge. What I wonder then is if we are talking rhythm players in two guitar bands, or otherwise? (Townsend and Edge are in one guitar bands, Young and Fogerty were in two guitar bands...) Then there's two (or more) guitar bands where they traded positions back and forth. (Southern Rock seems to rise to the fore here...) So, I'll just go ahead and say Paul McCartney.

Members mounds
Hetfield. He's the reason I picked up the guitar to begin with (when I was 12) i've still never seen metallica play, as they never go thru NM anymore. Jerry Cantrell fits here as well, and is a close second to Jaymz.

Members NeonVomit
Jon Schaffer. Those riffs are amazing. James Hetfield and Dave Mustaine, for the sheer talent to sing while playing those damn riffs. Kerry King & Jeff Hanneman, they're both fantastic rhythm players, and awful lead players. Blasphemer from Mayhem is pretty damn good as well.

Members Moody Johnny
My first thought was Blasphemer from Mayhem and Mezzerschmitt. He's got a brain of a genious and hands of an android. But on the second thought Vicotnik from Ved Buens Ende and Dodheimsgard transcends into spheres of his own. There is a certain amount of mythology in this story. To be true, in a career as long as Keith Richards' ther would probably be a period in which anything can be proven, but I have seen him play in 1982 and 2004, both times with 6 strings on the guitar. But he didn't necessarily play all 6 strings... And as far as alternate tunigs are concerned, mostly what Keith does is tune DGDGBD (Drop 1, 5 & 6 a whole tone). It's also known as 'Spanish tuning' and 'banjo tuning'. Do this and use a capo and you have the guitar reduced to absurd simplicity. The I-IV-V formations chart as (Gmaj) I=open, (Cmaj)IV= 4-2, 2-1, 1-2, and (Dmaj) V= 3-2, 2-3, 1-4. ALl the modulations through these chords are actually simpler played this way. "Start Me Up" is nearly impossible to do from any other tuning. "Midnight Rambler" takes a whole new look as well.
