Not sure. Would have to play one. Looks aren't bad, but don't make me gass. I played one of these hollowbodies in a Skyline down at Bass Central a few weeks ago. My first thought was I loved the tone. My second was that I loved the neck and it instantly reminded me of an MTD 535 I played a few months back. Turns out, Tobias helped them design it. Awesome to play, at least for me! Was talking to Brian at Lakland in Chicago today. He said a special order, like to get one in that blue that happens up on a lot of bass pr0n threads, is possible as a custom, but probably has a lead time of like 6 months. Members sheepdog
and you can order it with darkstar pickups which makes it that much more intriguing.
Members bholder
Nice, but I still don't like the bridge. So what's unique about the darkstar pickups?

Members bassman1956
To quote their site: Fred Hammon, of Hammon Engineering, describes his Dark Star pickups as, "modern, updated recreations of the Hagstrom Bi-sonic pickups originally made in Sweden in the 1960s. They are single coil pickups featuring individually adjustable pole pieces and a massive steel core powered by two Alnico V bar magnets." He continues, "Dark Stars are dynamic, high-output, broad-range pickups that do not tend to accentuate the midrange like most bass pickups but rather deliver a bigger, more evenly distributed sound across the spectrum. This gives the player a larger palette of sounds to work with in terms of manual dynamics. The steel core allows for greater saturation, absorbing and releasing as much energy to the amplifier as you put into the strings." I'd like to hear an A/B test, side-by-side, to know for sure. Members Benjamin
Very nice! I agree on the bridge though, it still doesn't look right IMHO. The problem is the bridge doesn't really suit their Jazz style basses either. It looks worse on the hollowbody, which really needs some form of Tune-O-Spastic bridge. The bridge like on my Artcore would be perfect.
Members sunburstbasser
I love Lakland basses. My no. 3 GAS right now is a Joe Osbourne, Skyline model. I haven't played a USA yet, it would probably be #1 though considering how nice the Skyline was! 1 and 2 are Zon and Ric, respectively, at this point. Hollow-body basses are very nice. Members sunburstbasser
I like the bridge. Its better than the square Fender things, anyway. I think its a touch heavier too, but I don't know if its enough to make much difference.

Members 82Daion
With the Dark Stars, you'd almost have a better, modern-day Guild Starfire.
Members bassman1956
Well, I'd still want to hear them. The one I played had the standard Barts, and was goood! If I'm going to put two 5-pound pups in anything, I want to know they're worth more neck surgery!
