my understanding is that Bose definitely has a good thing going in their home audio products. Small, yet full sounding systems (although expensive). From what I've seen, they haven't been wildly successful with their products for musicians. They still seem to be more of a novelty in a live music setting.

stereo
power amps that are 1U units with similar or higher power?

This is a lot smaller that a 1U unit. Plus you have to add $100 forthe use of the Bose name.:D I'd love to find a real spec sheet on the little bugger.

Good luck with that. Bose is notorious for not giving out specs. They feel they're too misleading and manipulative, which is not an entirely bad way of looking at things. Of course, if you're gonna state "250 real watts", you should let the rest of us in on your definition of "real".

Smaller than 1U isn't as useful as being rack mountable for a lot of people, so they should consider a rack ear kit or something. Then again, they seem to be going well out of their way to cater to dirty hippie types who don't use racks.......:)

I'd like to see the input levels for the power amp. (dreams of Korg Ampworks ->ducktape->Bose poweramp ...world's smallest head)

i totally agree. i've read a few articles about bose stuff, heard a lot of their stuff and frankly, it's not that great. they do have some good products, but for what you get, it should be a lot cheaper. it's all in the name. it's all slick marketing and packaging in lieu of quality and fidelity

The amp has 30 dB of gain, full output for 1V RMS in (0dBV) unbalanced (half for balanced to maintain constant gain).

There are plenty of good and cheap (and somewhat heavy) rack mountable amps out there. I din't really make sense to make another one (and it's boring too ;))

But if you are looking for something that's small and ligh-weight enough so you can throw easily into your "assorted junk" bag, than the PackLite may be an interesting option.

If you don't care about weight and size, it definitely would be the wrong amp for you.

Any of the following: Minimum load, Power ratings at standard loads, Slew rate, Damping factor, Max power at 1% THD, Input sensitivity, S/N ratio, any protection circuit or limiting if overdriven?, Fan cooled? Will my awful playing hurt it?

edit: weight?

Please take that with a grain of salt, official numbers will go up on our website in a day or two and I'm mostly recalling from memory.

Minimum load: 4 Ohm

250 RMS into 4 Ohm, 125 Ohm into 8

Slew rate: Not exactly sure how do you define that and why it would matter. The amp has 20Hz-20 kHz +- 0.5 dB and can ramp from zilch to full rail voltage in less than a microseconds (I think). The effective rise time depends a little on your speaker load.

Damping factor: Is generally high for switchers (Class D) and so much of a non-issue in the real world, that we don't actually bother to measure it. Around a 500-1000 I guess.

Input Sensitivity: 30 dB gain, 0dBV unbalanced, -6dBV balanced for full output. Max input

S/N ratio: about 100dB, might be published as 95dB

limiter: yes, you can overdrive the snot out of the thing wihtout clipping or damage to the amp or speaker (if it can take 250) and it sounds only moderately bad (depends who's playing)

Fan cooled: yes, small, controlled fan, should be off unless you are hitting it really hard.

Will my awful playing hurt it: Don't know yet. Maybe the fan's blowing can compensate for a certain amount of suck, but it's only a small fan ....

Weight: 3 lbs
