Members chubrocker
This looking interesting...and promising. Doesn't break the bank either: http://news.harmony-central.com/Newp/2005/A1-PackLite.html
Members Rowka
The announced minimum reselling price for the power amplifier is $399.99. Minimum?
Members chubrocker
Yeah, I noticed that too. But, with Bose, I anticipated $1000 minimum! Bose products are always good quality, so I hope the same continues to ring true with this product.
CMS Author Craig Vecchione Posted October 20, 2005 CMS Author Share Posted October 20, 2005 I'm assuming this is their intended amp for the B-1 bass modules, as the L-1's 750w internal amp will only drive the L-1 and two B-1's.

I have a pair of speakers connected to my stereo at home that sound fuller than the other pair of old towers with 15s in them. Yo.
Members HORSE
my understanding is that Bose definitely has a good thing going in their home audio products. Small, yet full sounding systems (although expensive). From what I've seen, they haven't been wildly successful with their products for musicians. They still seem to be more of a novelty in a live music setting.
Members Undertoad
250W into 4ohms for $399 and not rack-mountable? Meh!! I don't care what it weighs.

I'd love to find a real spec sheet on the little bugger.

They feel they're too misleading and manipulative, which is not an entirely bad way of looking at things. Of course, if you're gonna state "250 real watts", you should let the rest of us in on your definition of "real". Smaller than 1U isn't as useful as being rack mountable for a lot of people, so they should consider a rack ear kit or something. Then again, they seem to be going well out of their way to cater to dirty hippie types who don't use racks.......

Members John S. Shinal
It's a lot more competitive than some of their stuff, maybe that's a good trend starting. Dollars per watt isn't too hot though - it sure wouldn't replace my Crest LT1500, but it would be a nicer loadout. I got the Crest for less than twice the price of that Bose amp, though... There are plenty of good and cheap (and somewhat heavy) rack mountable amps out there. I din't really make sense to make another one (and it's boring too ) But if you are looking for something that's small and ligh-weight enough so you can throw easily into your "assorted junk" bag, than the PackLite may be an interesting option. If you don't care about weight and size, it definitely would be the wrong amp for you.

Members boseengineer
Please take that with a grain of salt, official numbers will go up on our website in a day or two and I'm mostly recalling from memory. Minimum load: 4 Ohm 250 RMS into 4 Ohm, 125 Ohm into 8 Slew rate: Not exactly sure how do you define that and why it would matter. The amp has 20Hz-20 kHz +- 0.5 dB and can ramp from zilch to full rail voltage in less than a microseconds (I think). The effective rise time depends a little on your speaker load. Damping factor: Is generally high for switchers (Class D) and so much of a non-issue in the real world, that we don't actually bother to measure it. Around a 500-1000 I guess. Input Sensitivity: 30 dB gain, 0dBV unbalanced, -6dBV balanced for full output. Max input S/N ratio: about 100dB, might be published as 95dB limiter: yes, you can overdrive the snot out of the thing wihtout clipping or damage to the amp or speaker (if it can take 250) and it sounds only moderately bad (depends who's playing) Fan cooled: yes, small, controlled fan, should be off unless you are hitting it really hard. Will my awful playing hurt it: Don't know yet. Maybe the fan's blowing can compensate for a certain amount of suck, but it's only a small fan .... Weight: 3 lbs
