Members illidian Posted October 22, 2005 Members Posted October 22, 2005 A Sansamp BDDI would be great for you, it sounds like. There is no mid knob, but cutting the bass and treble will cause a boost at 750Hz (mids) on the pedal. They cost about $190 new, and often around $100 used on eBay. What kind of bass are you playing through? This may be your problem.
Members der oxenrig Posted October 22, 2005 Members Posted October 22, 2005 SansAmps don't sound very much like tube amps. Also, they don't HAVE to cost a load of money. I got both of my Sunn tube heads for roughly 200 bucks each. Each is 100 watts. Deals can be found.
Members DanTolen Posted October 22, 2005 Author Members Posted October 22, 2005 Well I actually have tried some amps out that I really liked, but I posted this thread to see if there is any way to upgrade my current amp. It looks as though trying to upgrade isn't worth it, so I might look for a new amp. So.. thanks all, I'll make a whole new thread with questions about the amps I've tried.

I don't think anyone in this thread made that claim. I suggested a Sansamp because it can be very mid-heavy (or very mid shy, and I haven't had much like finding a common ground) and that's what he needs. Also, if the BDDI gives him the sound he wants, he can feed that to the P.A.

The bass has mids, suistain and appealing sound.Where as my amp no matter what I set it as sounds like a sub woofer with a tweeter.I'm looking for an overal full, bright sound like in Tool's Schism, not a thumpy- clicky sound. Man, I love Tool but I hate the tone on Schism (and other songs off that albumb). I thought Justin sounded much better on Aenima. Anway, good luck getting his sound he runs... A Wal active $4000 bass through a Bass driver DI, a Dememter Preamp, slits his signal to two different Mesa Boogie Hybrid (tube pre, solid power) into 2 8x10 (or 8x8) and a slew of effects. {But that doesn't mean he records with this setup} Good luck gettting his tone. Listen to some of that albumb where it seems like he's using a wah, nope, just his tone control. His bass is very powerful and his gear is outrageous. Even if you had all the gear he did it probably wouldn't sound like it. On the positive side, work with the Eq of your amp. It takes a while and you can't assume stuff like well I want it to be thick so I'll boost the lows all the way. Read the EQ thing in the FAQ section and it may help you. Good luck.
