I spent the last 3 hours of the night doing calculus homework.

And all I have to show for it is 2 incorrect answers. I successfully wasted the night getting nowhere. {censored} this.

Know the feeling. Business Statistics is possibly the worst class ever... Especially when it's being taught by the PHYSICS chair, instead of a Business professor...

Very well, "Calculus homework, I damn thee". There you go, but why you would want your homework to suffer eternal damnation is beyond me.

Think of it as a mental excercise. Sometimes you might have just made a mistake at the beginning, but the logic and theorems that you applied after that are still sound and correct. Try to get a hold of the complete answer or ask your teaching assistant to validate your steps and see how much of it are still good. Your 3hrs effort may not be a total lost afterall. :)

Dude: I have a BSEE, took 4 semesters of calculus, 2 additional semesters of "advanced mathematics for engineers".

That was over 15 years ago!!!

In engineering school, I had 4 semesters of calculus, it sucked, and now 10 years into "real life" it is absolutely useless. I have never used calc. outside of college. Just thought I would throw that out there to cheer you up.:p

I quit college two weeks before graduation because the US Forest Service said if I get out to Montana next week I'll have a job. I never finished and I know people who did and they make less money, too. Now, if you can actually use calculus someday it's then a good idea to frustrate yourself learning it. If it's just for a part of your degree program, then it might be time to change majors. It doesn't matter to a lot of employers what degree you have. My last room-mate took business courses and never had a lab and was almost never studying like I did for envirmental studies. He got a great job at graduation. They always load you down in Arts and Sciences.

Oh, and for biology, chemistry and most others in Arts and Sciences they make you take the 4 or 5 hours of regular class and 2 to 3 hours of lab for the original 4 or 5 hours credit. If you take two of these you are forced to carry a hugeload of work. They do this in math not with labs, but with tons of problem solving. And for what? Science majors make less money than carpenters. If you are going to become an architect or something, maybe it's of use. Maybe. Usually it's just the university offering it so they appear like they are really doing something.
