Anyone running their SWR SM-500 in stereo?

Just wondering if any of you sm-500 owners are running your amplifier in stereo mode with 8 ohm cabs (2 4x10's) ? If so, are you finding that you get enough volume and punch? I'm currently running my two cabs bridged mono for a 4 ohm load. It sounds great, but man does that amplifier get cookin'! I'll probably add a rack cooling fan at some point, but I read in the bass amp review section, that one gentleman was running his sm-500 in stereo so the amp didn't have to work as hard.

Thought I'd give the specs:

POWER (minimum):

Bridge/Mono Mode

500 Watts @ 4 Ohms

400 Watts @ 8 Ohms

250 Watts @ 16 Ohms

(minimum load = 4 Ohms)

Stereo Mode (per side)

300 watts @ 2 Ohms

250 watts @ 4 Ohms

150 watts @ 8 Ohms

(minimum load = 2 Ohms)

I say 250 watts will not quite do it , but you need to try to see , if it clips too often that could be bad , I use a Stereo 800 and @ 350 watts a side @ 4 ohm it will clip sometimes , I use it at it's full glory , 800 watts @ 4 ohms bridged , and use a fan , no worries ;)

Actually Fretless, it would be even less watts. With an 8 ohm cabinet, and running in stereo mode, the amplifier is only putting out 150 watts/side. I just don't think that's enough power to run the cabinets effeciently, but maybe I'm wrong.

ah I was thinking you would just use 1 side @ 4 ohm , but the manual says 2 ohm min , and then says "damage will occur " if below min , but then it says "if you use just one side " , so I can't tell if it's safe to use only 1 side or not  I use my Stereo 800 sometimes 1 side only , but the manual clearly states that it safe to do so . So I say use it bridged and find out if it's safe to use 1 side just to know, but even at 250 watts it may not do it for ya , at 150 vs. it's full 500 watts , I say 500 baby ! Get a fan if you are worried about heat , but run that amp , those cabs want to see some power , clipping the amp for to long can damage them , so if 150 a side is loud enough for you and no steady clipping occurs then perfect , you can add more cabs per side down to 2 ohm :D:cool: I would say 1 x 410 cab bridged at 8 ohm at 400 watt would also kick ass ;)
