Members Filobassman
I am gonna rewie my SX jazz soon and was thinking of picking the COld Heat soldering iron they show on TV but I'm not sure if it's any good. Has anyone bought it or tried it? And what do you think about it?

Members ezstep
IIRC, Rowka (?) got one a few months ago, after posting questions here. (A search didn't turn up anything.)
Members Rowka
I did get one. It does what it says, but it is not powerful enough for cables or pots. It just doesn't make enough heat. It's too bad, cuase I wanted to through it in my gig bag and have it for on-site repairs. It is very good for electronics projects, circuit board stuff. Members mounds
I used mine with a fine-tip on it to build a CMOY amp and it worked fine, but not so good for pots and other stuff.
Members jetmech727
There's butane powered soldering kits that come in a plastic case with various attachments. The gun is about the size of a large cigar tube. It's hot enough to do pretty much any wireing providing it's not like some heavy 4 guage stuff. It also has attachments for heat shrink tubing and cutting. Great for a gig bag. Little pricy but you'll be well prepared
Members bassguy
my dad has one and it works on everything, yours musta been defective?
Members bassplayinguy
my friend has one too, and its good for all the small soldering jobs and repairs, but you just dont get enough heat out of it to properly solder the back of pots or heavier cables, Ill stick to my Crappy Tire (Radio Shack if your American) special 15w soldering iron. That and it doesnt acutally use a filament, pretty much just electrically charges the part so that it melts on contact. pretty cool idea. but too bad they dont have a higher powered one. Members JC Bass
Yep...got one, too. It's great for little projects, but when I tried to use it on my SX project I discovered what has been said here...not so great for pots. Ended up chucking it back in the closet and got out the old soldering iron and got what I needed done.
Members mounds
i tried to use mine on my jackson when I did my rewiring with new pots and stuff, and it wasn't even close to practical with the pots or pickup wiring.
