Hey guys,

I can have a great deal for an Epiphone EB-0 but it has a small scale(30'5) and I'm 6 feet tall so I was just wondering if it's to small for me. But after all, I can't really see what 3.5 inches can do in term of diffence...

I just want to learn for eventualy buy a better bass. Anyways, I just want to have some opinions around here...thanks

YOu can find much better for your money.

Why does it suck so badly? I read some pretty good reviews for that bass...

Well, you can find good reviews on a lot of bad products simply because the people reviewing them don't know what they're talking about, or they're beginners so they don't know the difference anyways.

lol, I'm also a beginner so that must be why I don't understand alot of what you're saying...and thought that the reviews were really good...

Dunno yet, I might buy it anyway...for a first bass, it should do the work :p

Ibanez GAXB 150 right?

What's the difference between the two?

Oh and I just noticed, what's the main difference in the sound of a humbucking pickup?

In this case, it isn't jammed up against the neck. Being closer to the bridge, it actually makes a note instead of just going "brrrrrrrr, brrrrr."

The pickup itself is also better at producing notes and tones instead of just mud.

EBO's have one sound and one sound only----THHHOOOOMMM.

You get very little definition, lots of bass, and not a lot of flexibility. Having said that, if you're into dub, reggae or just like a '60s-style sludge-tone, have at it. Check it out and see if it's something you really want to play. Besides, if you can get it cheap enough, you aren't out too much cash in the end.

well, I think I will buy the EB0 or the Ibanez then...I want to learn so I'll start with this kind of sound ans if after a year or so, I don't like sound, I'll just buy another bass with another kind of pickups...

If you love indistinct vague low notes of questionable origin, a sound as aggressive and a mouse at a cat convention, string taughtness that rivals jello, sustain that rivals a teenage boy's first sexual encounter with a swinsuit supermodel, and the fine intonation adjustment of a lump of molten slag, THIS IS THE BASS FOR YOU! How do I know? I have a 1967 EBO that I tried unsuccessfully for years to get a decent sound out of, including changing the bridge, pups, tuners, basically everything but the wood. I finally got it to sound good...I converted it to a piccolo bass (a bass with guitar strings). After several decades, I can finally stand o be in the same room with it.

Yeah but even if it's not expensive on the website, after the shipping and the custom cost(I live in Canada), it's expensive...

Do you have an SX? People arounf here seem to like this brand...they must all work for them :D

Yep.

Actually, I bought it for my kids.

If you're determined to get the EB-0, no one around here is going to talk you out of it. I agree with others here that there are much better instruments in the same price range. You never mentioned how great the "great deal" is that you're getting. I bet if you threw a figure out here, that you'd get some solid recommendations.

Do you already own an amp?

Well, I checked the price of the SX and after all, it's less expensive than the EB-0...

And for the amp, my brother have a guitar amp so maybe it can work for a while...

There's always the starter kit on rondomusic but I guess that I can have a much better bass from them. What's your recomendation for the SX? Anyways, right now, it's between a SX bass, an Ibanez GSR-200 and the EB-0(less after all those comments...)

Not for a first bass i wouldn't get the ebo, the sole fact of how muddy these things sound...for a beginner you will be highly disappointed with "why can't i figure out whats being played?" even with the sheet music that bass will not sound like what you hear on most any recording. And it very well could turn you away from wanting to play bass. For a beginner you at least want something with a little clarity instead of the "can't tell one note from the other EBO".

I'd recommend this one:

SX SPJ-62

~$120

I don't recommend (and most other will agree with me) playing through a guitar amp. While it will likely work at lower volumes, you could very likely blow the speaker in the amp. If cash is really tight, you might want to consider the SX bass/amp package. I wouldn't expect much from the amp, but at least you want tear up your friend's guitar amp.

Yeah, but can we really blame all that on the bass?

"Operator Error".

I have a Rose-Morris Japanese EB0 that I got free from a relative who no-longer plays. It is great fun to play, I used it occasionally with a previous punk'n'roll band of mine but for many of the reasons listed above it'll always be a spare toy. However if i were to play in a 60s cover band that could change.

If you're an adult then I'd opt for a full 34" scale bass.

Yeah after all, I will buy a 34" bass...probably the Ibanez GSR-200.
