I think that's really good of you to even consider taking in a cat with health problems. Most people wouldn't bother doing such a thing, everone seems to want kittens.

My mom runs an animal rescue out of her home. It's mostly cats. She takes in the ones with the most problems. A lot of them don't make it more than a few months do to disease but a lot of them do make it thanks to her constantly caring for them.

So you get a big :thu: in my book for doing that

when my 14 year old dog was put down, we waited about a year out of respect and to not put feelings of anguish toward another pet. then again, not like i'll ever be completely over mourning my old girl. :(

you're ready when you feel ready. could be sooner or later, that's entirely up to you.

took me almost 5 years before i got another cat after my last guy passed on.

but that was me. he was a pretty cool cat that i didn't think i'd ever replace. well, i didn't replace him. but i got a very cool cat nonetheless. he's not my first cat, he's himself, and that's cool.

what i'm saying is, a new cat can/will never be Armycat, and if you're good with that, then go get the new little guy and bring him home.
