Members bob denard Posted October 26, 2005 Members Posted October 26, 2005 ...Bought from the US on Ebay. A very good deal, it took a bit long to get here (2 weeks) but it's in great condition. The packing didn't look terribly safe at first sight but it was actually cleverly done. For those interested, the actual shipping cost was 112 $ (the seller asked for 100 $). As for the customs, they just let it run through with a "free of charge" stamp ! Now my next two jobs are to rewire the transformer so it can take 220 V instead of 110 hoping i don't get fried .. and to buy the matching SVT 410 HLF on Thomann ! Much more fun !
Members BigPigPeaches Posted October 26, 2005 Members Posted October 26, 2005 Congrats, I'm sure you'll love it. I take it you have experience rewiring to 220V? It would be a shame to fry the thing.
Members RyCLB Posted October 26, 2005 Members Posted October 26, 2005 IIRC, don't most Ampeg heads come with a switchable power transformer (220V/120V)? My SVP-Pro does - it's just an orange switch on the back...I'd try that before screwing with the power transformer.
Members bob denard Posted October 26, 2005 Author Members Posted October 26, 2005 i have absolutely no experience in doing such things nevertheless i am an optmist, and also i have found a guy on the Ampeg forum who had it rewired in the UK and wrote down the changes made to the circuit... hope it won't fry..
Members BigPigPeaches Posted October 26, 2005 Members Posted October 26, 2005 Ummm...given what you went through to get this thing, I would strongly recommend just using a transformer over rewiring.
