i have just found my dads old bass lying around (westone I-A)

i pluged it it

and sounded dead, so i changed the strings. it was a little bit more punchy bu sounded dead.

then i started experimenting around

one of the 2 swtiches turns the bass off when what it should do is a active/passive switch and when i change one of the pots it dosnt seem to do anything at alll and when i change the other tone pot you can hear a slight tonal veriation but nothing much at all

any ideas

i will post pics soon

What's the name on the headstock?

You may have a problem with the preamp. If you've done all the knob-turning and switching you can, there's a possibility that there's no power. I have had a terminal come off inside the battery connector:

You may need to use a voltmeter at the opposite end, or you could lightly tug the wires to see if one comes out. Lastly, you could cut the plastic at the termination and see if a wire is having on by a thread (so to speak).

Believe it or not, this happened to me with a brand new bass, and I found out it was just the wire at the 9v connector. It was hanging on by a single thread of wire. I just pulled it off, resoldered a new connector and the bass was fine.

Of course, if you just need an excuse to upgrade... :thu:

Could be just a cold solder to one or both of those wires. Try that first. Make sure you use an iron that is a minimum of 40 watts. A gun would do better for that. It looks like a really cool bass. Your dad hads good taste.
